We stayed at the Hilton last week Sunday through Wednesday. Here's my review!
On our past DL trips (4 of them since last May; we are AP holders), we've stayed at the Anaheim Marriott (and one night at Hojo, I guess) and been very pleased with it. However, our usual package rate (including room, parking and glorious breakfast buffet) was not available during our trip last week. We'd roamed into the Hilton before and thought maybe we'd give it a try. The had good prices on their website, but I decided to bid through priceline (my first time using it). We got the room for $75 per night, plus tax.
Arrival was easy enough, in spite of pulling in during the last day of the world's largest natural products convention! We waited about 5 minutes to check in. I had requested a room with two beds in a quiet area, but we were checking in an hour early so I was just hoping for a ready room. At check-in, I asked if they had any Disneyland view rooms available. The employee said that those rooms are usually an upgrade (true; $20 extra per night), but that if she had one, she'd give it to us at no additional charge. Thankfully, she found one on the 8th floor in a quiet area with two queen beds!
We used self-parking ($15 per day and not included in the room price), and got a spot right by the elevators. Our room was easy to find. It was very nice and clean. I was thrilled with the view from the floor to ceiling windows. We could see the Matterhorn, Grizzly Mountain, Space Mountain, TOT, and even the top of the Main Street train station and castle. Needless to say, the fireworks view was perfect. (We watched them from our cozy, comfy beds every night!)
The room was nicely furnished and very comfortable, beds included. High quality (large, thick) towels and bed linens. Classy modern fixtures. Granite counter-top in bathroom. Crabtree & Evelyn toiletries. Flat screen TV with good channel selection. Overall, I felt that the room did match up with the 4 star rating that priceline gives it. Much more so than the Marriott (double beds instead of queens, less space in room) across the street, which also gets 4 stars from them. The room was also much quieter than than any of the rooms we've ever had over at the Marriott. We slightly missed having an in-room refrigerator, but we eat out all the time anyways. When requested, housekeeping quickly brought up foam pillows for my husband who can't stand feathery pillows. Thermostat worked great and HVAC was pretty quiet when running. Housekeeping came every morning while we were at the parks, so when we went back for our DD's nap, the room was always clean. Free USA Today paper each morning, too.
We never had trouble with ART. The buses ran very regularly, and we always got seats. I know many of you love to stay right across the street, but my DH wants a really nice hotel (not motel) when we're on vacation. Our one night at Hojo's didn't cut it for him. (I know, you're thinking...
) And with spring break prices, we felt that we'd definitely get more for our money by staying a short drive away. We did walk to and from the parks on our arrival day. Good to stretch out after the 6 hour drive. With little ones though, you'll definitely want a stroller.
Public areas of the hotel were clean and well kept, although some refurbishments are going on, including the pool. They're adding a kids splash/play area, which I think will be very nice once finished. The MIX restaurant looked quite nice (slightly overpriced, but most hotel restaurants are), although we didn't eat there. I scanned the breakfast buffet one morning, and found it to be slightly larger and better presented than the buffet at the Marriott, which we think is pretty incredible. Plenty of quick elevators; we never waited more than a minute. The gift shop is huge and not so over-priced. Great selection of stuff. The little food court and Starbucks are handy, although we didn't eat at them this time.
Our bill at check-out was correct... just the daily parking fees. All I had to do was call down and say we were leaving. Easy! With taxes and parking, our nightly room total came to $103.33. For spring break week at a solid four star hotel, we felt the room was a terrific value.
We had a great experience with the Hilton and will certainly consider staying there again on our next trips, especially if we can get more good priceline deals or deals through the hotel's website. The extra room space and queen beds instead of full ones will be a necessity soon, as we're about to adopt a second daughter!
