Generally you have to order by the cut off time though some may use the time you're seated. I don't know of any that will use your arrival time alone as the marker. As a rule their very strict in this matter but I'm sure it varies by restaurant and even from one server/manager to another. If you're planning to take advantage, I'd plan accordingly. Also, restaurant.com has some good coupons for HH right now (Aqua, Alligator grill, little Venice).

As noted, each of the early-bird programs will have it's own policy regarding how it works. In some cases, they will offer you the special menu aling with the regular menu - but in some cases it won't be provided unless you ask. Each will specify the time for the special, but you should ask your server about how late can you wait to order from that menu. The times will vary - with times typically ranging from 4:30 - 6:00pm. Some even have early programs starting in the early afternoon. Check the local free publication "Taste of Hilton Head" for more detailed information.

The Tuesday fireworks are set off from a barge anchored in the marsh next to the DVC resort - so there are many great views from the resort. Most of the marsh-view villas will have great views from their balcony but those in other buildings can easily find a good vantage point from all over the resort island. The Community Hall area has a great view.

The fireworks typically last about 10 minutes and there are a number of nice entertainment opportunities in the Shelter Cove area. The Tuesday barbeque is a very nice easy meal offered pool-side with games and activities for the children. Shannon Tanner offers free concerts at the Shelter Cove pavillion and there is live entertainment each night outside at both San Miguels and at Scott's Fishmarket - both also at Shelter Cove. Kingfisher also has entertainment and an early-bird special each night. (Scott's and Kingfisher are closest to the resort - about a 3 minute walk from the lodge area right across the bridge.)

Nick's, Redfish, Alexander's, Big Bamboo and many others all offer early dining. Others (Old Oyster Factory, Catch 22, Cranes) offer it on a seasonal basis - usually in the off-season months.
