Headed to HHI next month. We go about every year to every other year. Most of the time we eat seafood, but we are trying to find some good comfort food places. We've tried Dye's and A Lowcountry Backyard. We want to try something else. How is Hilton Head Diner? Any other suggestions?

Haven't been in a while but we used to really like Aunt Chelida's.

I also like Wild Wing Cafe.

Aunt Chelida's looks more Tex-Mex than Southern comfort food. And I'm not a fan of wings.

Anybody ever try Hilton Head Diner?

I'm also seeing that Truffles has some comfort foods listed on their menu? Any ever try that restaurant?

It's just a diner, good but nothing special. For Seafood don't miss the Sea Shack if you haven't been. For a nice meal, Sunset grill is quite nice. Wiseguys has good steaks. I really can't think of a great comfort food place locally, Mrs. Wilkes in Savannah is worth the drive to eat there alone and is the pinnacle for comfort food. Avoid Paula Deen's place IMO.

We tried HH Diner about 10 years ago and I really didn't like it. However, DH loved it and bugged me for years to go back. Finally, a couple years ago, in an attempt to shut him up, I went again. This time I really enjoyed it. Problem is, now he's shut up! We're seafood lovers at HHI, so can't really suggest any comfort food places. Maybe Kenny B's?

Tried Hilton Head Diner maybe 15 years ago and it was ok. The fun part was the owner/manager was doing magic tricks and playing with the kids, which turned the visit into a bit of a special event. But there are so many places to eat we have not been back.

Love Sunset Grill but haven't been in a while as we've done a lot of cooking on our visits lately.

When you are there ask Mike the pool guy (early morning he's cleaning the pool) or if you see Gordon around the Mercantile. If Gordon is still there - he knows the food places very well.
