I'm hoping to try DVC HHI for the first time. What do you think is the best time of year to go (and why)? Thanks in advance; I have always gotten great info here.

We have been 4 times at x-mas New Year's and loved the resort then. Lots of activites and fun, but the weather is very tempermental(twice it was 50-60's where DS swam in pool and once it was so cold we had gloves and hat and winter jackets all the time). It is very relaxing at that time. We have been in April and the weather was 65-75 and very nice for all out door activities. We were just there last July and summer is HOT and definitely beach weather. Swam everyday in the ocean and pools great fireworks at Shelter Cove, BBQ at resort. So each time we have gone, we have enjoyed ourselves. Depends what you are looking for? We love HHi so much we bought add-on there this October.

Yes, it definitely depends on what you want it to be "best" at? We went in March, spring break for us, and found it to be ideal. For what? Walking around, biking, playing miniature golf, not too crowded, beach walks, "secrets of the marsh" tour. We loved the weather, but it may not have been warm enough to enjoy the beach. The beach house was open very short hours. However, summertime is too hot to bike, in our opinion, not as comfortable sitting on the balcony, very crowded at resturaunts. So to us, March is "best", but maybe not to someone else.

ANY time is a great time at Hilton Head, as far as we're concerned!

We've been in January, March, April, June, July, August, September, November, and December and have had a great time on each and every trip!

As already mentioned, it depends on what you want to do, as to what might be best for you...but I don't think you can go wrong with ANY time of the year! You will LOVE Hilton Head!

Thanks for the advice. We have 2 boys (6 and 9) so we'll want to be outside and it should probably involve some water! Are the pools heated? Do you think the ocean is warm enough to play in (not heavy duty swimming) in April?

Christmas/New Year's does sound nice but I'd probably head all the way south to Florida for the warmer weather. As for summer, hot is not appealing.

We were just in the Florida panhandle for a week. The water (Gulf) was warm and although it was in the 80's during the day, there was always such a breeze, we never felt too hot. At night, the temperature was in the 60's. It was really perfect and I guess that's what I'm hoping for in HH. If I have to wear a long sleeve shirt on the beach, that's fine but I know the boys will want to play in the water a little, build sand castles, etc. so it can't be too cold.

I guess I should have articulated all of this from the start but your suggestions helped me figure out what I'm really looking for. Thanks again.

We have not missed an Easter there in 5 years. (late March through mid-April)

The temps and crowsds are just perfect for us at that time.

I don't know the Ocean temps, but when we went in March, I specifically remember them telling us at check in that the pool was heated to 82 degrees.
