I'm hoping that Hillary or Bill will make it to our area sometime soon. I don't see any sign of it yet but I'm keeping an eye out!

Another Hillary supporter checking in. I had trouble deciding who to vote for. I like them both. I finally went with Hillary because of her experience and dislike of the fact that Obama doesn't ever seem to say much about his plans. I know that his issues are out there. I just sort of feel like he's hiding them under a bushel. Maybe he figures what he doesn't say too loud won't turn anybody off. It may just be working. :confused3 I still say any great speaker with charisma could stand up and give eloquent, stirring talks on change and chant "yes we can". It takes more poise to be able to speak about the issues with clarity and defend how you're going to do what you've planned. I see Hillary doing that every day. Again, I'm not saying Obama doesn't have plans. I just think he should be talking about them a lot more.

DS is a college sophomore and has been an intern for Obama. We discussed the issues a lot before it was time to vote. He agrees that both candidates are close on the issues and says he thinks young people are more likely to base their vote on feelings, likeability, and (trying to think how to put it) stirring speeches I guess. He thinks older folks (meaning me LOL!) pay much more attention to the issues. His friends didn't talk much about the issues, except the ones they feel will effect them most directly - like the war. He knows all the issues are important, but feeling that the candidate is honest and a great leader of some movement is more important. He says a lot of his Obama buddies will vote for Hillary if she gets the nomination, by the way. In fact, even his Republican friends aren't too excited about McCain and his 100 years comment. We might get a LOT of crossover college votes no matter who the Democrats run.

I saw Bill Clinton a couple of weeks ago. I took my mom along. He was speaking on DS's college campus, but DS got out of class too late to get in the door. He had to watch a simulcast from another building. DD is a junior in high school and wanted me to pull her out of class, but she's getting ready to take a choir trip to Kansas City next week and another to New York City in April. I just didn't want her missing more class when she's in two AP courses.

President Clinton was amazing. I enjoyed every minute. I'm so glad I went to the trouble to go. I say go if you have the chance. But go early. Our venue had a huge line WAY before they opened the doors. Students were standing there at 8:30 and the doors didn't open until something like 11:45. By the way, we were there early enough that they offered to let us sit behind him on the stage. We decided we didn't want to spend the whole time looking at the back of his head, so we stayed put. Then when the rally ended, he shook hands with everyone behind him. :rolleyes1 I'm still kicking myself for not moving. It would have been a priceless experience.

Thanks for sharing your experince - I'd like to meet President Clinton or Senator Clinton one of these days!!

Closest I ever came was AirForce 1 was in Newark Airport once as we were on our way to WDW!!!

They said the same thing about George W Bush.

Now I'm not saying that Obama is anything like Bush because he isn't but I just question that reason for voting for Obama. :confused3

Well the Clinton and Obama platforms are virtual clones of each other. They differ on very few things, so yes, in that case, I think likability comes into play. I personally happen to like her more. I think she is genuine, hard working, and wants to be president more than anyone else running.

Good point and I agree with your assessment of Hillary. Another thing is that we practically know everything there is to know about her after all the Clintons have been through. No skeletons in their closets! :)

True, but I'll admit that I'm not looking forward to all of that stuff getting pulled out again and rehashed. It's already been happening here on the DIS-we've had threads about the Clinton pardons, comments about the Rose Law Firm...I'm expecting one about Vince Foster any day now...

If Obama wins the nomination, you will hear plenty about drug use, being Muslim (yes, I know he's not but that won't stop 'em), his middle name, plus a whole host of other, yet unknown problems that have yet to be dug up by Karl Rove and his ilk. A new scandal is always more juicy than an old one you've heard a million times. There is nothing new that can be dug up on Hillary.

You're probably right-either way it's going to be sickening.

Oh yes! Obama is a fresh new target for the other side and there's no telling what they'll come up with. Hillary at least has her rebuttals in place.

But that's not a reason not to vote for him. We know that the Right is going to completely SMEAR either one of them. Whether it's a rerun or whether it's new, it's still going to be a smear fest.

No, that's not a reason not to vote for him. However, it is a reason that he will have a harder time than Obama supporters are willing to admit. I hear a lot about how the Republicans hate Clinton so much that they will come out in droves to vote against her. I think that if Obama is running, they will come out just as strongly against him, particularly after the smear machine gets through with him.

I hope you're right. It concerns me that Hillary continues to refuse to release her tax returns. Her promise to release them when she secures the nomination seems peculiar, and somewhat worrisome. If there was nothing there, then why wouldn't she just release them as have Obama and McCain?

I always think openness is the best option.

I agree...:thumbsup2 I like her a lot also

they may already have stuff on him but waiting to pull it out during the election if he gets the nod.....

We all have skeletons in our closet not matter how minor they are there and in politics they turn out to be made into BIG skeletons....and tend to be exaggerated....and that goes for all candidates

Oh, I am sure of this. They are waiting for the best time to sling mud. Right now, it would not do much good for them, but come the election....

They may not even have to use it if many remain as uneducated as those is this report. *Yes - this is from Dec 2006, but I am sure we could still do this same segment today.*

Hillary Clinton Speaks to Crowd 12,000 Strong in El Paso (VIDEO)

by Pamela Leavey
February 13th, 2008 @ 1:20 pm
Last night in El Paso, Texas Hillary Clinton received a rock star welcome at a rally of supporters that was 12,000 strong. Anne Kornblut claims in the WaPo that Hillary was “booed” when she mentioned her “differences with Obama over health care and the mortgage crisis.” If she was booed it sure as hell could not be heard over the screaming of support for what Clinton was saying. Kornblut’s piece in the WaPo is highly indicative of the hit pieces the media is known for when it comes to reporting on Hillary Clinton.
The exuberance of the crowd in El Paso, Texas last night could not be mistaken when I watched the video of Hillary’s speech below. Watch the video here:

There’s a vast difference between Hillary Clinton’s speeches and Barack Obama’s. I have said that here more than a few times. While Obama talks about creating a movement, Clinton talks in concrete terms about getting things done that need to be done: health care, environmental jobs, fixing the economy, ending the dependency on foreign oil, doing away with NCLB, ensuring that students can go to college. Clinton barely mentions Obama in her speech and when she does, it is only to draw contrast between their plans.
Hillary spoke in Texas again today, congratulated Obama on yesterday’s wins and stressed that she is ready for the coming contests:
“I’d like to congratulate Senator Obama on his recent victories and just tell him to meet me in Texas,” Mrs. Clinton said. “We’re ready. We go on, and we are ready for the contests ahead. There are hundreds of delegates in play on March 4. We are organized and well positioned. This is a long journey to the nomination. Some weeks one of us is up and the other is down. And then we reverse it. … It’s a long and winding road.”
After Texas, she intended to fly to campaign in Ohio. But Wednesday, she said she would return to Texas next week and plans to stage a large rally in the Valley that the campaign hopes will attract up to 50,000 people.
“As we go into this incredibly important primary in Texas, we need to be comparing and contrasting,” Mrs. Clinton told her supporters.
“I am confident and optimistic that the people of Texas want real solutions,” she said.
Her message over all last night and today was positive and not at all divisive as Obama frequently claims. I have to wonder if the Obama team ever listens to her stump speeches, because clearly she’s not politicking in the way either Barack Obama, his surrogates or supporters claim she is. That is incredibly apparent in every stump speech she gives.
The full text of Hillary’s speech is here.
The El Paso Times has a few quips from an interview with Hillary that will run on Sunday.
Finally, contrary to Hillary’s incredible welcome in El Paso last night, Obama spokesman David Plouffe showed the true colors of the Obama campaign today by claiming they are on the “verge of wrapping this thing up.” Note to Plouffe… It ain’t over until the voters all have a chance to vote their conscience for the nominee of their choice and the votes are all tallied.

Yes they could but at this point many already are aware of who he really is...makes me laugh that even in 2006 people did not know the name of one of the biggest threats in the world :confused3

Must say however that Barach has come a long way since then to an unknown to as what some call as the Missiah....that in it self is impressive.

His experiane or should I say lack of at a time of war is what bothers me. I just wish he had more. I hope who ever he brings in as his VP has what he is lacking....

You would think that people would know him. But look at how many still cling to the whole "he is Muslim - gonna sell us to the terrorists" thing.

I just feel like we (the people of the US) will be making a mistake if he is elected this go around. I really do not see him being very effectual in office at all.
