Hi... I see that many of us members are interested in booking a stay at the AKV... we are planning a trip for August of 2009. Likely starting on August 17th. We are looking to get the cheaper points and after Florida schools go back. Our home resort is SS. So the 7 month window will apply. We are planning to do 3 nights at AKV, then move over to the Beach for another 6. I plan to call day by day, starting on the morning exactly 7 months before. We need a 2-bedroom. What are the chances I won't get AKV? I see that people have even said at 11 months out rooms are not available. So is there a big chance we are going to get shut out? I like to be prepared.

By Aug '09 a lot more akv rooms will be completed- and I have heard that is a pretty easy time to book room at 7 mos- if you are flexible on what category 2bdrm you want- you probably have a good shot. Good luck (We are going the same dates as you- but not looking for akv:) )

We really want the AKVC level... because we want to do the Sunrise Safari. My boys love the safari and we think that experience would be wonderful for them. That is our main reason for wanting to stay there. What do you think? Problematic??

AKV concierge will be VERY tough to get at 7 months. Your only hope, I think, is if they offer concierge in Kidani, which they haven't thus far.

We had no trouble getting AKV for this past Christmas Dec.20-26.
SSR is our home resort.

DH just called day-by-day, I believe.

BTW, we LOVED it!!

:goodvibes Thanks for all the information....

I hope it works out. I would love for my kids to have the experience of staying there for a few days and hopefully getting the opportunity to do the Sunrise Safari.... I guess we can always do the sunset safari if we don't get the AKVC level. I believe that is open to all AK guests.

Since there are only five 2 bedroom lock off units in the concierge category, it is not at all likely that any will remain by the time the 7 month window opens.

Some of the lock off units will be rented as studios and 1 bedrooms, so that reduces the numnber available as a 2 bedroom even more.

AFAIK, there are no plans to offer concierge services in the Kidani Building.

No concierge in Kidani? I wonder if they will open up the Special safaris to the DVCers as the OP wants.

OP, perhaps when it is time maybe try and rent the AKV points at 11 months and then rent out your own SSR points to make back what you shelled out. You will float a balance, so to speak, but its probably the best chance at the concierge if there are indeed only 5 2BRMS and none in the new building.

I spoke with my DVC contact person Friday. He said that 10% of the new AKV building will contain concierge level rooms. He did not say what types of rooms they will be... but said there will be many more then they have currently. There will be well over 300 new units. I am not the best at math but that indicates over 30 rooms will be concierge level when the building is complete in early summer 2009. We discussed my chances of getting this type of room in mid-August. He said I had a good chance at 7 months out because there will be so many units and many people won't opt for them. Did he give me false information?

I dont know, even if true 10% is fairly low.

personally for me it would all depend on whether they were guarenteed savanah view rooms or not

I have no real desire for concierge currently as savanah is a bigger draw for us and only half of the current concierge rooms have savanah view

that to me makes no sense

I called last week and got an AKV studio value for a weekend this May. I waitlisted at the time for a Savanah view, 2 days later I got the Savanah view. This is 4 months out. Of course my willingness to spend weekend points probabaly helped.

I hope he is right about concierge at Kidani and I have no reason to doubt him. I was just going by what has been officially declared / previously announced.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for those who want to stay DVC concierge.

Am I right that anyone that stays at the AK can do the Sunset Safari?

Yes, the price is $160 per Concierge club guests 10 and up, $210 for non-Concierge guests 10 and up and half price for guest 8 and 9.

WOW... that is a lot of money :scared1: . That is per person???? Sunrise Safari is much less. I am shocked and confused. We really wanted to do the special safari but I know that we could never swing that.

LOOKING FOR AN AKV IN SEPTEMBER THIS YEAR (2008). WE ARE FLEXIBLE ON DATES. ONE BEDROOM OR TWO.
