Hiding ducks and other things?

I'm just surprised that DCL is (or appears to be) OK with it. I know you can't hide things around their theme parks for others to find. If some random thing shows up (usually hidden) somewhere around those properties, they are removed.

I had the same thought when my dd found a duck on our cruise last month(on the Fantasy). Seems like quite a few people on here have been finding them lately. The one my dd found was the only one we saw anywhere on the ship. I didn't try to look for anymore either, so not sure how popular this is becoming. The duck had a note asking if you find it to take a pic and post it to the group's fb page. I don't do fb, so my dd just put it in a new spot for someone else to find.

Wow I’ve never heard of this trend until 2 minutes ago when I read this thread. When I’m on a cruise I’m looking at the ocean and relaxing—or eating lol. I find it hard to believe anyone would be searching for hidden rubber ducks on a $4000 or more Disney cruise – or any cruise! Until I read this thread, If I noticed one of these lying around, I would’ve presumed a small child left their toy behind. I guess to each his own.

Also for parents it can cause conflicts if at home they try to teach children not to accept things from strangers or pick up random things from the street and then on holidays it would be allowed.

I know I don’t have to participate. But I’m not really seeing how shopping, assembling/wrapping, and delivering gifts isn’t work. That’s work, by any reasonable definition.
You don't have to buy anything big or involved for a FE exchange. It's only meant to be a fun thing. Some of the best FE gifts I've gotten were simple things - regional recipes; small (sample size) chapsticks, homemade bookmarks. And there's no wrapping involved.

Many FE groups limit their group sizes to just a few rooms.

Sorry, don't want to talk you into anything, just pointing out it's fun, but certainly not for everyone.

What's work to you, is fun for me (and many others). I like shopping for just the right thing for someone. I like crafting and assembling little packages. I really liked delivering everything as it gave me a chance to wander most hallways and enjoy the door decorations. None of these things were "work" to me. But I might feel that some of your hobbies are chores.

I mean, by that logic nobody should want to participate in Christmas. I’ve never considered gift giving and receiving to be “work” rather than “fun.”

This thread is the first I've heard of it. We have our own collection at home of about 5 dozen...we don't need more! But now I'll know if we find a random duck what it's all about. Thanks!

Well, for starters I don’t give gifts to strangers at Christmas. And yes, Christmas is a ton of work! I’m glad it’s only once a year and I do it for the love of my children and family.

I’m not begrudging people who think FE is fun. Have at it!

I like FE's but those are on people's own doors, not randomly strewn around the ship. I've never heard of the duck thing before reading this thread, but am not in favor of it as I don't want to see junk (yes, that's junk to me) strewn randomly around the ship. If I found one in an area that should be clear of personal items, I'd probably trash it.

I bet many of the people who buy plastic ducks to leave randomly around the ship are the same people who preach against drinking with plastic straws...
