Merry Christmas all!!!! We got a light dusting of snow last night. Not my dream snow, but better than nothing. The boys are playing with their new Cars set. Just waiting for hubby to set up the Atari I bought him so we can play Space Invaders!!!!!

Just wanted to say Merry Christmas everyone!!!

Hope you enjoy your day - and watching the Disney Cellebration Parade of course
Do they have this available on YouTube? We don't get that stuff on tv here, and would like to watch it this arvo.
It's 7am and we about to leave for Boxing Day sales, so will be a nice way to relax later!
Merry Christmas to all my fellow inhabitants of this happy place! Was watching Kathy on Periscope just now, live from the MK. :)
I need to get onto this periscope thing!

Atari?!?! How flipping awesome! We played on my granny's atari so much as kids in the 80's!

Merry Christmas all!! I hope you all had a wonderful day and ate heaps!!
What did everyone get?

I got a 3 pack of Harry Potter popvinyls, and 4 stunning Harry Potter books. They're like encyclopedias, and one is a huge 500 page book on the making of the films!!

So I haven't found the full things on line, but if you search for "disney parks christmas celebration 2015" on Youtube you can find it broken out into parts

you can also see just the actual parade there or on periscope if you search there

Hope your Boxing day purchasing went well!

Disney goodies I received: a new Mickey Mouse watch, a "Genius by birth, Grumpy by choice" t-shirt, and two copies of the Olaf's Snowgies card from the MVMCP.

Non-Disney: Kindle Fire 8 HD and cover, cooling towel, bike bag, and bike gloves with LED lights in them; when you signal to make a turn, the LEDs light up to help indicate to drivers which way you're going.

Sorry if I'm late to the thread.

Seeing as we don't celebrate Christmas (makes sense since we're Jewish), I took advantage of the ridiculously warm weather we're having here - 68 degrees today - and spent a few hours cleaning our garage. I know that may not sound particularly exciting but I've been on a major mission to get rid of clutter and the garage is one of our main depositories of crap we don't need. This was just the latest in many sessions I've spent out there. I've really gotten a lot done, thrown out a lot of stuff, recycled a bunch of boxes and paper items, taken several cartons of stuff to Goodwill and have a couple boxes more ready to go, found a few things to sell on ebay, and packed up a bunch of things to donate as raffle and auction prizes for future DIS meets for GKTW.

I've also been strolling down memory lane as I come across both personal stuff and family stuff. Those of you who are friends on facebook may have seen the telegram my father sent to his mother in 1943, when he was in the Army, that I posted the other day. Also lots of old photo albums and stuff.

So oddly enough, I'm really enjoying cleaning the garage. Once that was done, we celebrated our traditional family Christmas with Chinese food and a movie. We always go to a theater but there was actually nothing showing currently that we all wanted to see. Instead, we stayed at home and watched Paper Towns. DD had seen it already (she's a HUGE John Green fan) but wanted to see it again. It was a fun movie. Nothing spectacular but worth watching. Oh and we did watch the Disney show this morning, though I gave up on it after about 45 minutes. We were actually there when they were filming it so it was kind of neat to see the finished product. But I don't care about the musical performances as I don't even know any of the artists (except Reba McIntyre). DD and DW were disappointed that they didn't really show the parade like they have in previous years. They said they only showed brief glimpses of it.

I hope you all had a great holiday.

Nice gifts, enjoy! I have a 1st gen Kindle Fire, and have gotten many, many hours of enjoyment out of it! And if you're Amazon Prime, the free Kindle book every month, and Amazon Prime music are a nice pus! :)

SOunds like a nice, peaceful, productive day, Steve - glad you enjoyed it! Been going through, "downsizing" a lot of stuff myself, and you never know how much crap you have until you go to do something like that. And like you said, it's definitely a trip down memory lane! :)

"you never know how much crap you have until you go to do something like that."

So very true! I've been working on the clutter off and on for a while now but I really got serious in recent months. It seems the more I clean, the more I find. It's amazing how much stuff accumulates over a lifetime. And it really is more than a lifetime as there's even family stuff from before I was born that has ended up in my possession.

Disney is a big part of the problem, too. We have a huge Disney collection that I started back in the mid-70s. A lot of it is displayed in our home, but there's a lot that isn't. It's all packed up in the garage. I'm kind of leaving those boxes for last but at some point, I need to go through them and start letting go of some of that stuff. Most likely, it will get donated to future DIS meets. For now, I'm focusing on all of the other stuff.

That's cool - neat to find old family things like that telegram. Going through some of my dad's stuff I found a bunch of stuff from when he went to the 1939 World's Fair that was pretty cool

We turned off the Disney celebration after a while as well - my 6 year old commented "I thought they were going to show the parade?" - so yeah, disappointed by lack of actual parade footage. I thought some of the performers were ok - though thought the Decendants one was odd as they were singing about being "cruel to the core" and then as soon as it was done they flipped into super cheery "Merry Christmas!" mode

Got to agree, MaxRebo - didn't even bother turning on the "parade" today, and have watched it less and less over the years as it became more of a musical variety show than the parade, or really even much to do with the parks, and therefore became less and less interesting to me. That's why I enjoyed Kathy's Periscopes even more than I usually do this morning, because they were actually FROM the MK, and LIVE.

I thought it was alright, a great message for kids, but totally over rated. Frozen was definitely better and big hero 6 blew it out of the water
I don't think you can compare Inside Out and Frozen. They are totally different kinds of films.

Inside Out was brilliant. It explored emotions, adolescence, parenthood, etc. in a way that no other movie has that comes to mind. For an animated film to have such emotional depth was phenomenal to me. Jes, I think you might find that your appreciation of the movie would be different if you were older and had kids, especially a teen girl.

Not a Frozen fan (market got WAY oversaturated by it, WAY too quickly, and I feel it was just an "okay" movie, AND song!, but that's just IMHO), I definitely loved Inside Out and thought it was well done (agreeing with Dr. Steve o his reasoning), but also have to agree with you, Jes - Big Hero 6 was totally unlike what I expected going in, was awesomely done, and had a killer message for kids - and adults - alike - love, love, loved that movie!!

I am a Frozen girl. Whenever "Let It Go", comes on my pandora I sing at the top of my lungs. Inside Out had a great message, and I really enjoyed how it was done. The voice acting was awesome. Big Hero 6 was just amazing. I loved everything about that movie. I had no clue going into that movie what it was about. I need to buy it.

No, I appreciate it as a single woman in her late 20's who, even now, and definitely as a teen girl, struggles with depressive thoughts, feeling quite alone, and feeling like I have lost connections with my friends, and don't have any actual hobbies that I love and die for etc.
All things covered by the movie, however, I still didn't think it was outstanding.
I enjoyed frozen much more. inside out was still a good movie, absolutely. I just didn't like it as much as the hype made me think I would.

We went to see the Disneyland Rose Parade Float being staged in the early (read, 3am) of New Years Day. It had a representation of Elsa's castle on it, and a girl in a security guard outfit came walking by blasting Let It Go on her phone and singing her heart out. It was just so much fun.

On that note:
Happy New Year Everyone....!

I didn't get a chance to post much, as out holidays were full of friends and family and food and general good times.
I hope you all had a great holiday (or not holiday) season...! It's been cold here (for us, anyhow) in California and we're expecting El Nino to begin in earnest on Monday. Looks like 7 straight days of rain to begin the week....
it wouldn't be so bad (I actually love the rain) if people here knew how to drive in it (SLOW DOWN!!).

Just listened to Pete's Solo show and I realized that this week marks the end of our winter hiatus which makes me pretty gosh darn excited.
