Sad to say that I had to cancel my VGC reservation and our trip to Disneyland due to being laid off. I decided to book at trip to HHI with some of the points so I can get a watermelon Dole Whip and some sand in my toes.

For context, we go to the beach multiple times every year, usually once in the spring, once in the fall, and a longer trip or two every summer. But it's not at Hilton Head. I'd be looking at spending a night or two here as part of one of those other beach trips - sort of a fun change of pace. Our focus would be more on doing the HHI and Disney-specific things rather than just going to the beach itself since we already have plenty of that. Would 1-2 nights be sufficient for this?

There aren't a lot of Disney-specific things to do at the resort. It's definitely very Disney-lite in that respect. There are pool games, a s'mores event at the campfire near the pool (which I think is twice a week), nominal fee activities such as tie-dye t-shirts, et. al., and several yard games you can play: bocce ball, giant checkers, horseshoes, corn hole, and basketball among others. Chip n Dale make the occasional appearance, but not real often and not for a long session. Other than that, it's lazing by the pool or at the beach, sitting on your balcony (which is enjoyable), crabbing/fishing from the pier, or going out on a boat excursion from Shelter Cove Marina. Three days and two nights should be plenty if you don't need the beach. That being said, HHI is a very relaxing, true family vacation where you can sit back and enjoy the low country vibes.

We usually only leave the resort for some meals out, tours of Pinckney, nature walks, and of course, the occasional trip to Hilton Head Social Bakery. So we stay for about 11-12 days, and would stay longer if our pets didn't mind.

My 3 grandchildren are the exact same age range. Frankly, much as I'd love to share HHI with them, I know they'd be completely bored with that kind of stay. There are some fun resort activities, but I think that 4-5 days would be plenty.

We don’t mind any area of the resort, its small enough that location isn’t a big issue for us. However if you are looking for views you could request marsh/water.

The only thing I ever request is top floor. The sound in many of these units from footsteps is loud.

I highly suggest calling a week or two out from your trip as you will actually talk to a scheduler at the resort. You can make your request at that time.

As TweedleDum says, HHI is a small resort and there truly are no bad rooms or rooms far away from the "action." I put action in quotation marks because HHI is all about relaxing vibes and enjoying family time, as opposed to rushing to parks or ADRs.

The resort has 76 2BRs which are located in every building on the resort except for 11 and 12. Bldg 11 is the Live Oak Lodge building where you check in. Bldg 12 is co-located and shares the elevator there (though recent reports indicate it may not be working currently). All the other buildings house four 2BRs each. The farthest away from the pool/mercantile/QS area is 13, and it's still only a 6-8 minute walk. The rooms themselves are in a very quiet area and have views of the marsh.

If you want water/marsh views, then ask for 13, 14, 15, 18, 22, 24, 27, 29, and 31. If you wish to be close to the pool/mercantile/quick service area, the closest are 23, 24, 25, 26, and 27, though truly no building is far. If you don't get a water view, the sights you have off your balcony are still lovely and serene as they overlook the well-manicured grounds and various yard games scattered throughout the resort. Bldgs 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15 are closest to the entrance of the resort, thus the check-in desk and the shuttle to the beach.

I've stayed at the Poly a few times, and HHI is nothing like it--it's intimate and easily navigated. The CMs are the best in the business. For reference, I do urge you to google a map of the resort that has the building numbers. You'll see all the buildings I mentioned and more. Enjoy your trip!

You can walk from the extreme end of the resort to the other in maybe 8 minutes. It's really not a large resort. I wouldn't sweat room location too much.

Don't forget Building 31 also has a water view. And I've encountered several guests who've seen dolphins from their balconies of that building.

Obviously, I wasn't awake or hadn't had enough caffeine when I posted my comments. First, I forgot the map that hhisc16 so diligently included, and now I can't number the buildings correctly--yes, it's building 31 (not 30) with the excellent water views of the mouth of the deep water entrance to Shelter Cove, as well as Broad Creek and the marshlands. Great views of the fireworks during the summer, too! In fact, 31 is one of the most, if not the most, requested building on property. I have corrected my mistake.

We’ve enjoyed just playing our luck on building locations and going more specifically for view requests and asking for marsh/water view. We’ve always been given our request!

And we are one of those outliers who prefer the bottom floor. We got some rough walkers and loud kiddos in our group. Last time we were there, we got called for multiple noise complaints, and I don’t think they were that loud..but on vacay we let them stay up and so we play it safe, we now choose to stay below the walkers above us. Nothing a sound machine and early pot of coffee can’t fix! Last time, the people above us were soooo quiet. I hardly ever heard their group.
