Is HHI busy at Christmas time?
The points are not high, so I was curious if this is not a usually busy time for them.
Any one with experience on this?

What about the island, are things closed in December?

Any info about the resort at this time would be helpful!
Thanks,
Kamy:)

We were there 28-Dec thru 4-Jan. From the 28th to the 2nd, we were told that the resort was at capacity, but we had no problems booking a 2BR unit at 7months out and we didn't have a problem adding on an additional night when we decided to stay 1-day longer. The impression I got was it was a lot of last minute type reservations. The resort never seemed to be full though.

I cannot recall anything that wasn't open except that most of the charter boats seemed to be shut down.

We were at Hilton Head this past December, checked out on December 24th. The resort was at 20% occupancy when we checked in on the 19th and we were the only ones in our building (#31) until a few days before the holiday then things really started to pick up. Things were pretty quiet but we liked it that way. If we wanted the rush and crowds at found Disneyworld, that's where we would have gone so we did not consider it a negative. It was pretty cool at the beach house but we did have some days in the 70's and some days that were much cooler than that.

After we are "empty nesters" in a few years, we plan to book a one bedroom the first week of December every year (104 points). You can't beat that! Also, we found plenty of activities in and around the resort. I can't wait to compare the November "holiday" crowds, weather and activities with our December experience to compare the timeframes. But the difference in points for a one bedroom (160 in November vs. 104 in December) will probably be the deciding factor for us.

I think you'll find that since HHI is truly a seasonal resort, the occupancy tends to diminish substantially as the days get shorter/colder. That having been said, the island is truly beautiful and there are many things to do, even if you can't hit the beach. (Rumor has it that there is cold weather in Orlando as well!)

In any event, many members do tend to go there around the holidays. The lower points do help, although they rise slightly around Xmas & NYE.

I have booked a GV for the last week of the year and hope to make this an annual family event. Maybe you will end up doing the same thing? Best of luck in your planning!
