I am considering using our DVC points at HHI I know it is not right at the beach but they take you to their beach house? How does that all work and how is the drive from the airport to the resort. This would be the first time I have taken my dd with out my DH. So usually I don't drive.

The resort provides a shuttle to the beach. Distance: about 1 mile.

Which airport?

You can also rent bikes. They have a passage that goes under the main causeway. HHI is a great place to bicycle around. Be sure to ask for baskets (no extra charge).

Can't help on the airport thing but the beach house I thought was awesome on our first trip to HHI. It has a pool and also an air condition kind of a club room to cool down if needed. We rode bikes both times and had a terrific time doing it that way. It is about 1 1/4 mile from the lodge.

I think the beach house is open from about 8 to 8 however shuttle runs I believe from 10 to 5. Biking gave us some good quality family time together!

Assuming you're coming from Savannah airport, the only hard time you could have is right by the resort. The first time we went to HHI, we almost missed the turn-off from the main road, because of Hilton Head's signs (or lack thereof). And don't drive at night-you're sure to get lost around the island. But getting to HHI, you should be OK.

It's about a 45 minute drive from the Savannah airport depending on the time of day. I would take the cross island toll road ($1.25 toll) as it cuts out LOTS of traffic and stop lights while only adding a mile or two distance.

The resort provides a shuttle to the beach much of the day and there is a free Dunes Buggy that runs from 8am - 9pm daily from April - October to cover the times when the resort shuttle does not run.

Enjoy! :)

You can also fly directly onto Hilton Head ( airport code HHH ) and that airport is 3 miles from the resort. My parents have flown into it before and it's a straight shot.

Thanks Doc on the Dunes Buggy news! We did not know that one! My guess is the front desk can give us more info on how to catch that on a late rebound back to lodge?

Wonder what happened to the sign that used to be there? Perhaps they took it down after the resort sold out or something because they did have decent-sized sign out there on 278 (going back several years). When we drove down on our last trip we also almost drove by because I was focused on looking for that sign.
