HH restaurants

This thread definitely needs a bump! Any new places to add? Those of us going later this summer are making our list...:cool1:

I've posted this somewhere else, but I will add it to this thread as well. We recently got back from another trip to HH. We were so impressed by one restaurant that I am excited to share. We tried the Old Fort Pub's "Early Sampling Menu". I think it is only offered from 5-5:30 or 6 (call for info). It was fabulous, great view and awesome service. The chef kept sending out things to try that we did not order :goodvibes salmon mousse appys and choc truffles etc. Very pleasant surprise! It was a terrific meal at an extremely reasonable price. But you do have to go early for it, otherwise it can be pricey. Enjoy!:thumbsup2

Well, I agree with everyone - restaurants are wonderful.

Our favorite dining experience is grabbing some steaks, a bag of ready-to-go-charcoal, and heading to the grill next to building 31 where the kayaks are stored. We fire up the grill, add olive oil and the new steak rub from Costco (out of this world), sit in the chairs with a drink and watch the marsh while the food is cooking.

We have made some wonderful family meals on that grill with the sun setting in front of us. The other night, a great blue heron joined us on the fence for a few minutes.

We are just back and had a wonderful, wonderful time.

Is this ok for kids? Is it casual or dressy?

In my opinion the old Fort pub is very iffy for children. Well behaved or older children would probably be comfortable however rambunctious kids would likely not fit in well.

I agree with Dean about the kids. We took ours and they were fine (they're preteen). Dress was everything from Dresses, dressy casual, but then :confused3 someone walked in with a t shirt and shorts too.

Thanks for the imput. Mine are great in nice restaurants. Just not sure if we want to get very dressed up, but the menu sounds great!

We've been to HHI 8 times and Old Fort Pub and Charlie's Crab are my 2 favorite restaurants in HHI. They are a bit more on the upscale side-like the Disney Signature restaurants. Of course on the casual side-we love Salty Dog Cafe.

That guide they have on the island is great, but www.hhidining.com has all the menus.... Nice to plan a little. Anthony's is GREAT ITALIAN and has wine flights. Not for children.

ALso, during busy times, it is worth it to pay that island delivery service to get take out delivered. SOmetimes it is so busy guisseppis line is busy for hours, but htat way you get around it.

THe German rest is fun and I will miss it.

Thanks for the link!

Ditto, ditto, ditto. Marley's and Crazy Crab are also consistent and less upscale than OFB and CC.

What HH area restaurants are best for serving healthy (i.e. low fat, whole grains, lean protein, lots of vegetables, ...) fare?

My turn! BUMP!! What's exciting for 2009?:goodvibes

Has anyone tried Wise Guys? It looks to be owned by the same group that owns Frankie Bones and Giuseppe's.

Their menu looks tasty, so I thought I'd ask.

When we were down a couple of weeks ago we saw that Robert Irvine (Food Network - Dinner Impossible) has opened a restaurant on HHI. Anyone tried it yet?

Funny you should mention. He just came and spoke to the culinary club at my dd's university last week. She went and was so glad she did! Afterwards she told me about his HH restaurant and what he said about it...that it's right outside the Sea Pines Circle and that he is on-site there 3-4 days every week, even with his filming schedule. Our family is looking forward to trying it out! Apparently, what he "threw together" for the students that evening was wonderful (no set menu, just some ingredients purchased at Publix and he asked them what they would like him to make).

Wow, can't believe this thread got resurrected but I can comment on Eat! (Robert Irvine's place).
What is important to know is that Robert rarely cooks in the kitchen but instead hangs out with the guests. Kinda like the TV show as he's got staff running around while he directs.

That sounds kind of cool.

Is the food good and is it a place for little ones? I have a 10 month old. He's well behaved, but I wouldn't want to ruin someone's romatic dinner. We're going to try and eat super early to avoid dinner dates.
