HH restaurants

Has anyone eaten at Reilley's Pub at Sea Pines Circle? I'm just curious since I have the same name as the owner, Diane Reilley.

Nope, not familiar with that. But here's another hint...

Try the little general store in Palmetto Dunes that you pass on your way to the beach house, it's on your left, near the tennis courts, just before the guard house.

This place has become our favorite for take-out breakfast. About half the price of the breakfasts at the resort! DS has fallen in love with the sausage and biscuits!

Stopping there for breakfast gives us one more reason to get up early and hit the beach (and get a parking spot in the garage!)

Great hint! Thanks! We'll give that a try as I like to hit the beach early as well. :sunny:

Iam still trying to find a way to convince DH we NEED to follow the kids advice and, when we aren't at WDW, we need to be in HHI! We had a really good time there! Now if I can just get to Vero... (and BTW -- if you go to Vero -- my sister said GO TO SQUID LIPS RESTAURANT. Said it's a great place with great seafood.) :teeth:

Cindy

I am doing the same. I can see us at HHI for retirement!

As far as our fav's:

We , on the other hand, have loved our visits to San Miguel's and it is always our first night out. The food has been excellent (not sure if we have been lucky on what we ordered or what). The service is OK. Nothing spectacular. Cadillac margarita is good. Don't know about the rest of them.

Salt Dog's is a must also. Not really for the food but for the uniqueness and fun at the live cam. And shopping in the little stores.

Now, Signe's is a must since we visited there this time. I agree with another post here that the fritatta was fabulous. So was the blackberry french toast, but it is more like bread pudding I think. The key lime bread pudding, btw, is wonderful. We want to go there for lunch some time b/k many of the sandwhiches sounded great.

Didn't care for the Old Oyster Factory. But we only ate there once and maybe we just didn't get the right things. We are spoiled by a place called South Beach Grill in Wrightsville Beach. If you are ever there, go. It doesn't look fancy on the outside but it is wonderful!

We like Giuseppie's OK.

I guess I lean towards the restaurants we can ride our bikes to. It's just so nice to be do that.

I have heard that Sante Fe is good though and we hope to try it sometime (maybe during our retirement :thumbsup2 )

Have fun! Wish it were me trying to worry about where to eat at HH.

What's the name of the place right by the bridge to the Disney resort? I don't see it mentioned much. Anyone have comments?

Does Garden Oak Grill have early bird specials? What type of menu do they have?

Are you talking about Kingfisher's? I've heard a lot about it, unfortunately it's be hot and cold. One person tells me it's the greatest place on the island and the next that McDonald's is better. They have pretty good early bird's though. Don't know about the other location.

That was my assumption about the quality, unfortunately.

We must have always caught Kingfisher's when it was hot, as we never got a bad meal, or bad service. The scallops and salmon were great. :thumbsup2

We've eaten at Kingfisher's twice and did not enjoy it either time. I'd skip it.

Unfortunately, Garden Oak Grill is one of the restaurants that has closed its doors in the past year. Don't know if anything has taken its place for this year...

We have a gift certificate for Bonefish Restaurants. Has anyone tried the one on HHI?

Ate at Bonefish last July on recommendation from someone who lives on HH. Even though it is a chain (part of Outback chain), it was really, really good. My mother still talks about it and I know we will eat there again this summer.

That said -- two colleagues who are HHI regulars (one owns a condo in Shelter Cove) claim THE place for tex mex food is Santa Fe. Next time, I'll try that.

I don't think Santa Fe is tex-mex. it is Neuvo- New Mexican cooking which is upscale and eclectic. I have also heard that Santa Fe is not very kid friendly
Anyone have any experince with kids here?

San Miguel is just old tex-mex and bar.
I am suprised about the non-english at San Miguel. The bus boy is the only mexican I have ever seen at that place in 16 years. My 2 year old loves the place. We go we the music starts and he just dances and eats chips.

Bonefish is very good. I can't stand chains including Outback and their italian chain, but Bonefish is very good.

We enjoy Alexanders early bird menu. And they always welcome our little boys.

I'm so glad to find this thread. I just came back from HH 3 days ago and I wanted to share our experience at Little Venice (the Italian restaurant located in Shelter Cove). We went on a Friday night and our first clue should have been that it was not crowed at all! While it looks like a very nice restaurant, they food was horrendous. There were four adults in our party and two of us had to return our meals (and believe me, I'm NOT a picky person). By the time the waiter came back to ask us if we would like something else, it the other two were finished. I asked for a small "side order" of pasta just to curb my hunger. They charged me $16 for that small side of spaghetti with meatballs (which, by the way, did not come with meatballs). We asked to speak to the manager when we were leaving and we nicely expressed our disappointment. His response "hey, we've been here 23 years!" Well, they may have been there 23 years, but they know nothing about Italian food or good service.

Try San Miguel or Scotty's Seafood - they're a much better choice in Shelter Cove.

What, if any, restaurants are within a reasonable walking distance (all late-teens to grownups)?

Our grandkids thought that Salty Dog's webcam was the coolest thing ever. They called a couple of their friends, pointed them to SD's website, and then waved to them. They still talk about that!

Anyone have good recommendations for vegetarian dining??? WE dont eat seafood -and there are of course an abundance of seafood restuarants in the area. Hoping to not feel too limited in dining???

bumping up

And I am not sure what the vegetarian dining is like around the resort, but I wil make sure to make note of it when we go this summer.

I live here- most of you have found the best places to eat. Old Oyster factory is wonderful, though you need a car to get there from the resort. San Miguels is pretty good- mostly for atmosphere, food is decent, prices are a little high for what you get. It is a great place to get a drink after dinner though! Kingfisher is very good for a place close to the resort. When my family comes to visit we usually go out to Just Pasta in Coligney plaza- the food is good, and it's very inexpensive, (for HH). This is a good place for vegetarians. For inexpensive mexican that is very good- go to Amigos on Pope Ave. (this is pretty much carry out- its a very small counter service restaurant- 2lb burritos!!) and Fiesta Fresh is very good also.
Wild Wings is great for "hot wings, cold beer, good times" it has a sports bar feel.
If you are looking for a more upscale meal, (w/o kids) You definately need to go to Frankie Bones in the Main street villiage. (Its on 278 across from the plaza where Wal-Mart & Barnes & Noble are) They have great food with a rat-pack/Frank Sinatra type atmosphere. And also Charlies Crab, which is very out of the way and can be hard to find but is SO worth it! They have a spectacular view, the atmosphere is elegant and modern and the food is excellent. Both restaurants have early bird specials.
There is a new restaurant in the Wexford plaza called Spice. They serve indian cuisine- I havn't eaten there yet, but one of my friends is a chef there. (we used to work together at Sea Pines resort). Spice has a unique decor, and good food- but from what I can tell, they are still getting their feet under them as far as service is concerned.

*The BEST she-crab soup on the Island, and in the low country as far as I can tell) is my husbands. He is a chef and works at an area hotel. Everyone who has it says it is the best. He has had guests demand that he come out of the kitchen to tell him in person that it is the best they have ever tasted. It's that good. But they don't have it regularly on the menu where he is now and he won't give out the recipe. *
Hope that helps. IF you want to know about a place I havn't mentioned here feel free to PM me- I have eaten at a LOT of restaurants locally.

That guide they have on the island is great, but www.hhidining.com has all the menus.... Nice to plan a little. Anthony's is GREAT ITALIAN and has wine flights. Not for children.

ALso, during busy times, it is worth it to pay that island delivery service to get take out delivered. SOmetimes it is so busy guisseppis line is busy for hours, but htat way you get around it.

THe German rest is fun and I will miss it.

:wizard:

Another bump. Just bought into DVC and love the idea of HHI for a change of pace from WDW...
