What is HH like in non summer months? Is there anything to do before and after the summer holidays? Are there still activities like there are in the summer?

We were there last year during fall break, in mid-October. It was too cool to sit on the beach or swim in the ocean, although we rented a beach umbrella and two chairs and tried it for about thirty minutes!!! On the other hand, the pool was heated and in the daytime it was very pleasant to swim and sun poolside. We went on a dolphin cruise and it was fantastic - we saw a mom and a newborn baby cruising near the shore - just magical!!! We went to the campfire and to the stoytelling session in Big Murgie's Den, and I think there were other activities as well. With two daughters, we also paid a visit to the outlets!!! This is such a wonderful place - so totally different from our WDW vacations, but every bit as much fun for our family.

We never go to HH in the summer months, so I can't compare, we always go in March. There are still a big variety of recreation offerings, although when I signed up for the tour of HH, I ended up being the only one. At that time of year, it's rarely warm enough to go swimming, but the mini-golf courses are open. All the resturaunts are open, and when we left the pizza place by Piggly Wiggly one night, there was what looked like almost an hour wait, making me wonder what it would be like in the summer! And when we went to Captain's seafood one night, we got the last available table. The island must be a zoo by comparison in the summer! We love going in March, but we don't swim and we've seen a lot of families with disappointed children at that time of year, because they can't really go to the beach.

Best time of year is April and May. This week it's 80 degrees all week and clear, perfect weather for the beach, even if the ocean's still a bit cold. No jellyfish, which are numerous in HHI waters in July-Sept. No hurricanes or tropical storms which can crop up in July-Oct. And the landscaping is at its most beautiful this time of year with azaleas and dogwoods all in full bloom. Best golfing time of year for adults, and if you bike ride with the family it's just great this time of year on HHI. Why not visit in April/May and see for yourself?

Our first non-summer trip was this past March. And we are eager to do it again.

Sure, we love the summer weather and the beach and pool, but there really is plenty of other things to do. This was the first time we rented bikes and we will surely do that again. We also went to more on-site activities, played lots of ping pong, foosball and shuffle board, ate out more often, and simply enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere.

I highly recommend it.

Has anyone ever been there while the MCI Classic golf tournament is being held? DW and I were talking about this the other day as that would be a neat time to go. I could watch the tournament and hopefully it would be warm enough so she could sun out on the beach. I wonder if tickets to the tournament are easy to get?

We just got back from the tournament; we go every year. It's a fun event, very family oriented---I'm always surprised by the number of strollers being pushed around. There's usually a good number of "name" golfers there, coming straight from the Masters which is always held the previous week. The negative thing is the parking in Sea Pines---it gets very crowded; they put you in lots and bus you to the actual tournament.

Tickets are available to anyone although there is a total limit sold. I read in the paper last week that they still had some availability right before the tournament started. Price for a week long pass said $130., not sure though if that was a grounds pass or club pass (my dad paid less than that for us, although I'm not sure how---there may also be a early order discount). I'm also not sure if "daily" passes are still available--they had them in previous years but this year all I saw was people wearing week-long badges.

Some of my favorite memories over the years: seeing Payne Stuart practicing in his plus-fours; getting Loren Roberts' signature early in the week before he won the tournament that year. Funny story this year: one of golfer's ball landed in the lap of an 80 year old lady who was sitting in a chair near the green. She was told not to touch it or move until the PGA official came and made a ruling. All these people were coming up and photographing the crucial part of her "lap". The PGA guy joked and said the player would have to play the ball where it was. It was funny---and in the end the golfer gave her the golfball as a souvenir.
