We're thinking of doing HHI next summer. Could someone tell us about the beach? Is it close to the resort? Is it a public beach? Got any links to pictures?

the beach it across the main road, through a private community. it is about 1-2 miles. you need to ride to get to it. though the beach (sand and water) is public, the entry is private. it is only for the guest of Disney and the Palmetto Dunes Guest, who park to the left of the beach house. Disney has a private beach house with pool, bathrooms, and snack bar. It is a very nice beach house. it also has an underground parking for about 10 cars. I have noticed though that some cast members and palmetto dunes residents are using those spaces. I wish they would put card entry gates under there. HHI is a very wide beach. even at high tide, it is a long walk to the water.

We are going his weekend- will let you know how crowded the parking is then. We were there in Oct and no problems with parking at all- there were always a lot of open spacing even in the parking deck.

We've been to HH in October and July with no parking problems for the beach either time. I have some pictures of the beach, but not sure what to do so you can see them here.

Just got back from HH and if you are going on a peak weekend like Memorial Day or July 4th the beach parking will be crowded. The parking at the Beach Club is not reserved for Disney only-- found that out from the shuttle driver.

She also gave us a tip for the busy times. The shuttle starts running at 10am upon request. She suggested taking your car over around 10 and getting a parking spot under the garage then calling the shuttle to pick you up. Then have the shuttle take you all back when you are ready to go to the beach for the day. Then you can drive your car back to the resort at the end of the day.

The shuttle is a bus that holds about 20 people. On Sunday DH had to drop us off at the beach with all the chairs, coolers, etc then go back to the resort and catch the shuttle back over. We called for them to come pick us up when we were ready to go. There was only our 4 and 2 others on the trip back and she was there in less than 5 minutes. The times we road the shuttle it was not full and there is plenty of room for you coolers, chairs, bags, and anything else.

Hope this helps.
