Hey Moms, I need some suggestions

My dd has been suffering from the flu. She has a terrible runny nose with it and underneath her nose is all red and painful. I've tried neosporin on it but of course it gets wiped off everytime she grabs a tissue. Any suggestions on what I can put on there to help this? Thanks!

I would definitely get the tissues with the lotion in them--they do help. Also I would keep applying vaseline.

Are you using tissues with aloe? Those seem to work well for us. Also, I usually put a tiny dab of vaseline on my nose (not inside -- just the outside of the nostrils) and keep applying it when it wears off. If I do it right when I go to bed, I wake up with my nose being good as new.

My DD was complaining about this last night. We used Aquaphor, and she tried not to rub it, and just dabbed. If you put it on at night, she shouldn't rub it off. Be careful though, because it does stain fabrics. Her nose is much better today.

I second the use of tissues with lotion and to continually apply vaseline. It's a pain when it gets wiped off, but it does help so much so have her keep reapplying it!

Another vote for Vaseline It's miracle stuff. I use it every night while I'm wearing my CPAP(it stick up my nose!) keeps my nose from getting sore.

WOW! That was quick, thanks everyone. I will buy some of the tissues with lotion today. Not sure why but I hadn't thought about that! She's feeling a little better today but is embarassed to go to school with her nose looking like that. It extends from her nostrils all the way down to her top lip. I'll also pick up some aquafor to see if that helps. Thanks!

ETA - I'll also do the vaseline at night!

Yep, Puffs Plus With Lotion are perfect...unless you are cleaning your glasses!

I also heartily reccomend the Puffs with lotion but I also will give my kids an old almost gone tube of chapstick to reapply all over their lip/under the nose area each time after they blow their nose. It is easy for them to apply themselves and seems to do a pretty good job of soothing the dryness and chapping. We do throw the tube away after the cold is over.

Another vote for Vasaline! Samething happenes to my dd all the time when she has a cold.

Another vote for Puffs with lotion! I also use Vaseline Lip Therapy which helps out tremendously.

Clean the area with a warm washcloth. Make sure it's dry & cover it with Vaseline.

I had to do this with my daughter last night & her face looks so much better today.

I use a soft cotton handkerchief. I would also recommend A&D ointment.

Vaseline is so sticky, that it is hard to wipe it all off, also. I've used vit. E capsule, before, also.

I hear that you should not use neosporin in your nose, as it can become very allergenic ?????

uh oh, I'll quit using that! I just thought with the pain reliever in it, it may give her some comfort! THANKS EVERYONE!

Vaseline is a miracle worker!! My dd gets chapped lips and then licks her lips so all around her mouth is chapped and gross. I wait until she's sleeping and then I slather Vaseline all around her mouth-it's sooooo much better in the morning. I hope your dd is feeling better.

Doing it while she is asleep is a good tip. Just gently put it on. It will be alot better in the morning. Poor pipsqueak!
