Hey, Has Anybody Noticed That Taylor Swift Can't Sing?

News Flash: Main Stream Media Likes Terrible Music.
Seriously is it that shocking that all these teeny boppers have no voice and are just shilled out to uninformed masses by big companies for no other reason than to cash in.

Oh my I told my daughter if I sounded like the girl from Sugarland I would never sing in public I think her voice is so bad

:thumbsup2 If they held her nose closed you'd never hear a sound out of her!!

Miley Cyrus is another bad through the nose singer.

Taylor wasn't a corporate creation like the other teenyboppers out there. She was writing songs at 14 for other artists. She paid her dues to get where she is, I think.

Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash, Janis Joplin...

Music isn't all about the pipes.

Hey, I'm a 56yo woman who thinks Taylor Swift is one of the best new songwriters to come along. I love the drive of her songs, the pace, the rythym, the lyrics. Her performance at the big shows has nada to do with her talent. Those shows are infamous for having horrible sound systems especially for soloists. She's not a belter like Melissa Etheridge but I think she's got a sweet, smooth voice and her songs are quite good.

Fwiw, I went to college on a full ride in vocal performance after having trained for years so I at least know what to listen for. AND - the funny thing here is that she's making more money than most of us combined so why judge unless you're a tad bit jealous. meeeow

Not racy? Some of her dresses are cut down below her chest - that's not all sweet and innocent to me. And if she put any more black gunk on her eyes, she wouldn't be able to open them.

Appropriate songwriter? Her love story song talks about getting married at a very young age (Juliet was supposed to be about 13 years old) and she says she's the scarlet letter - that's the big red A for adultery. She sings about sneaking out of the house

"So I sneak out to the garden to see you
We keep quiet ’cause we’re dead if they knew
So close your eyes
Escape this town for a little while"

Watcha think they're doing - gazing into each other's eyes? :rolleyes1

Oh, for heaven's sakes. At least she is not singing about threesomes and who wants to "do things" with her or someone being obsessed with her and making people think he's "sexing" her. Or any of the other 1001 songs that are played on the radio stations.

Romeo and Juliet is usually read in Jr. High or high school--I don't think the kids will be running out and getting married at 13, its a love story and a very romantic one. And, it appeals to young girls.

And at least she is not spelling out what they are or are not doing if they are not "gazing into each other's eyes". Besides most young girls will think of things much more innocent and simple--a lot can be said for leaving things to the imagination.

Sorry but 11 year olds are a bit over listening to Barney or the Wiggles or whatever the heck is on for little kids anymore. Taylor Swift is a good thing for these impressionable girls that are listening to her.

I consider myself a casual Taylor Swift fan. I don't own any of her cds or anything but I do enjoy her music. It's funny people pointed out some of the lyrics from "Love Story". The line "You were Romeo, I was the scarlet letter" always confused me. I know, it's high school literature, but it didn't seem to fit the song. I honestly don't think Taylor's that good a singer. She's decent at best to me.

That being said, I do like listening to her. Her music is catchy and relatable. I don't know, she just seems so genuine. I think part of her appeal is that she seems like an ordinary girl. I do agree that some of her dresses are very low-cut, but her body is very willowy so it does not look revealing on her. The dresses she wears would probably look a lot different on other body types.

::yes::

I'd rather a singer that writes their own songs over someone who doesn't any day.

I think it just means that she is forbidden, but I will concede that it makes very little to no sense.

I think she's a sweet, polite, adorable, kind, genuine, humbler girl that is a great role model for young girls. :goodvibes

She's a great entertainer/performer. She's a great song writer and guitarist. She isn't the greatest singer in the world, but she can hold her own most of the time. At least she doesn't lip synic. Her lyrics are cute. :)

There are other song writers who aren't the greatest singers but are superstars selling out concerts....Barry Manilow for example.

I'll take Taylor any day over Brittney, Miley, Lynsday Lohan, etc....

Being a huge Bob Dylan fan I find it imposible to fault any song writer for their singong ability.

A year ago, my dd (almost 13) & I would cringe and change stations every time Taylor Swift would come on -- which was often since she is on both country & pop stations. One day "Love Story" came on and we kept changing stations, but it was on 3 different radio stations at the same time! A little at a time I started to give in and listen to it and somehow went from cringing and hating her voice to actually enjoying it. I had a chance to see her for free a year or two ago and passed on it! My dd got irritated at me because I started listening to TS when she would come on the radio. The next thing I know, my dd is listening to her too. Now she youtubes TS all the time and she had to buy the Fearless album. She is learning TS songs on guitar & piano and wants me to buy the Taylor Swift album. She wants to see her in concert but the nearby ones are sold out.

We don't know what happened, but we are now fans. I also think TS has a cute, bubbly personality.
She does not have the best voice ever, but it fits with her songs.
Singers who I think have great voices: Mariah Carey, Fergie, Whitney Houston, Christina Aguilara, Christopher Cross, Collin Raye, Alicia Keyes
Singers I like who really can't sing: Steven Tyler, Don Henley,
Singers I don't like who really can't sing: Tracy Chapman, Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Nicks, Johnny Cash

It really is a matter of opinion. I'm glad there are many styles of music and voices! There is something for everyone to love!

actually, I read that her dad paid her due$ (literally).

It's obvious she has some "help" when performing at a real concert...but just her, say on a talk show...rough...
