Hey, Has Anybody Noticed That Taylor Swift Can't Sing?

OMG!! Really? Many performers these days can't sing. All those cute kids from the Disney Channel can't sing either but the sell, they're fabricated singers, they all sound the same, but Taylor is a song writer.

Yes they're silly lyrics, but most of her fans are kids, at least her lyrics are clean and cute.

I don't know anything about her but those horrendous eyelashes. I can't even look at her!:scared1:

When she was on Dancing with the Stars and I turned it off on the second note. I was shocked she's so popular!! :confused3

Oh my I told my daughter if I sounded like the girl from Sugarland I would never sing in public I think her voice is so bad

she's the one who sings through her nose, right? and what's the dude's part in sugarland?...other than looking pensive and strumming chords...

You know, the girl is only 19 years old and here she is singing in front of what is possibly all her music idols. There had to be some major nerves involved. I mean, I realize she sings in front of thousands every night she has a concert; but as a singer I would imagine that it is different than singing in front of Reba or Willie or Faith and Tim or whoever was in the audience.

:thumbsup2 I know whenever I performed at Disney, it was ten times more nerve racking to perform for staging during rehearsals, or when I knew other performers were in the audience like opening day of the Disney Dreams Come True Parade. It is a whole other ball game when you perform for other performers. You know that they know what you should be doing and are going to be a million times more discerning than the average audience member.

I have never heard or watched a live performance of hers so I can't comment on that. I like her music, and at least recorded she has a decent voice. It's refreshing to have some music to listen to that isn't all raunchy lyrics. And what little I've seen of her she seems like a genuinely nice person.

I did go to her concert in October. I really only went because Kellie Pickler opened for her and one of my best friends wanted to go (anytime we go anywhere together it's a good time). It was VERY theatrical. She would sing and then stop and soak up the applause. At one point, she stood on the stage for literally 10 minutes mouthing "Oh my goodness! Thank you!" Then she said outloud "Everytime I think of this city from now on, I'm going to think of this moment". More applause for another 5 minutes. Then she showed a little video clip about how she commits all these "crimes of passion" by writing songs about boys. Then she appeared at the back of the venue, in the audience, half way up in the seats. She did a song, then walked down to where the soundbooth was set up, hugging EVERY SINGLE PERSON she went past. Then she did a couple songs in the sound booth then walked around the perimeter of the barriers hugging EVERY SINGLE PERSON, then she left the sound booth and walked to the stage hugging EVERY SINGLE PERSON on the way. It was way too theatrical for me. I have never seen a performer that is so into themselves. I guess I'm not used to that kind of show, though. I've been to see Bruce Springsteen 3 times so I'm more used to performer, band, and stage. No special effects. No fancy costumes. My friend and I were so annoyed at Taylor after the concert, we got into the car in the garage, rolled the windows down and blasted Much Better by the Jonas Brothers (we love them, traveled to NYC to see them last summer and went through this big ordeal to see them this summer) which is about how over Taylor Swift they are ("Now I'm done with superstars and all the tears on her guitar. You're much better!")

I will say this, she stood outside until 3am (long after the concert ended) signing autographs for all the fans that wanted one when she came to Charleston. Her concert is mostly an act but she seems very humble to me. She's bought her fans pizza's that were waiting outside her hotel, she did some special on MTV were she went to prom with some guy and she seemed to be really into making his day rememberable for him and she genuinely seems to reach out to her fans. I won't say, she's my favorite singer cause her music is geared more towards teens but when I hear her songs, it reminds me of my high school days. I don't get all the Taylor hating. :confused3

Ackkkkkkk, I had never heard her sing live before..... That was really bad IMO. You could barely hear her, almost like she was afraid to sing louder. It seemes like she mummbled (sp??) through the whole thing. :confused:When she DID raise her voice it was really off key.:scared1: :rolleyes1

That worked as rationale for me the first time she performed at the CMA's, back when she released Tim McGraw. A song that I hated by the way. But now that just doesn't fly, she's been on tour, she's been on TV, other awards shows, it just doesn't fly. I've seen her too many times now, singing off key, mumbling, just not performing well. I will say it again, she is a talented songwriter, she plays guitar very well, but she's not a great singer......give me Carrie Underwood any day!

Jennifer Nettles totally sings thru her nose, she's very nasally and whiny IMO. And Christian, he just plays guitar and looks pensive....LOL I really can't call them a duo in my head, it just doesn't work for me. I will say that I did really enjoy the performace they did at the CMA's, Jennifer really hit that song hard and well, not too whiny for me on that one! :)

Frank Sinatra couldn't sing? Not a favorite of mine but I've never heard anyone say that before...

As for Taylor Swift, I don't care for her singing either besides she's Pop and I rarely like Pop. I agree that she has a nice aura about her but she is just about 20 so I'm not sure if the "innocent young girl" thing will work for her much longer. Hopefully she can be a nice young woman instead.

No- in my opinion he couldn't sing. He really just "talked" during his songs.......

Sometimes it doesn't matter how well a performer can sing, it matters how well they can "sell" a song.

Taylor Swift is very talented. I'm sure her voice will improve with time.

I like bands that write and perform their own music. I don't want to see them dancing or anything on stage other than playing their music and doing it well. I was watching an interview with Paul Simon a little while ago and he said something along the lines of all the dancing and pyrotechnics are only needed if the music can't stand on it's own. Good bands get up there and play. I agree. I don't want to see Dave or jack Johnson up there doing dance moves. I want to hear them playing and singing their music.

I think the exception to the rule is Rush. This band is about as technically perfect as one can be. I have heard Geddy Lee live and sounds just like the cds. Not to mention that Neil Peart is considered one of the best drummers in rock history. Rush has a great pyro show. They do a lot of theatrics on stage, but they can back it up with vocals and instruments.
The real shame is that this groundbreaking band, with thousands of loyal fans, has never been inducted in the Rock Hall of Fame. Thats just wrong.

Some of them yes. But not all IMO but to each their own.

Back to Taylor Swift, it'll be interesting to see what happens when she gets past the cute young girl thing. The young fans will probably move onto someone else and she'll have to adapt like all young performers.

I have loved Taylor Swift since I first heard Tim McGraw and have both her albums but a friend of mine went to her concert and said that she sounds so "off" live, nothing like on her albums. I hope that maybe she inproves with time as the songs that she writes are really good. To me it is interesting that she is getting so many awards.

What a coincidence. I was calling my wife as I looked at the recent threads. Just as I noticed this one, my wife mentions that she is having lunch at Chuy's and Taylor Swift is there.

I am not actually familiar with Ms Swift's music, but she seems very nice.

its funny that so many are saying that when they heard her in concert she sounded bad. I didn't go see her, but a lot of the kids around here did and when asking the parents who went with them they all say it was great show. :confused3

The girl appeals to young kids and, for now, is the biggest thing. Not sure she has the staying power of the big icons but for now, she is IT. I, personally, think its great because I know I can purchase her CD's or let dd listen to her music without worrying about the songs I haven't heard. Its all the same and the songs are written perfectly for young teen girls. Its not meant to appeal to adults, which may explain why it doesn't.

Maybe it depends on the show. I saw her last year and I thought she did a good job. She only did a few songs so maybe that had something to do with it (She was touring with Rascal Flatts). Now I saw Miley last week and she was not very good!

Hmmm Im wondering if she was sick that night or something cuz that video was BAD! I went to see her live this summer and I thought it was really great! She sang much better then on that video. I mean she wasn't amazing and she couldn't hold a note like some of the other girls Ive seen live like Carrie Underwood or Faith Hill but she wasn't that bad. I though Taylor did an amazing job live when I saw her but who knows it could be the fact that your in the moment at her concert so everything just seams great at the time!

whoa...........must have a tin ear..................:rotfl2:

It's all opinion- most people love Streisand.......... like nails on a chalkboard to me!
