Just stumbled on this when trying to find out why Hertz prices were so ridiculous for August this year.

When we picked up our Hertz rentals last year we were told to stay in line as our Gold wasn't valid in the US so we got none of the perks etc.
I'd assumed this was to punish us for taking advantage of the expedia glitch on two different occasions but the thread above implies your European Gold isn't valid in the US unless you register it online for US preferences. I'm not sure about the earlier posts around faxing a signed copy as the last post suggests just completing the info online does the trick.
I'll let you know in September if it worked (assuming Hertz stop being so damn expensive. 4 weeks Chevy Tahoe in July is £900, 4 weeks in August is £1580!!!)
