Ok, this is a little complicated:
Months ago we booked a package through AAA. We were going to do three nights at Coronado with dining, then 6 nights at Doubletree without (and 7 day passes).
THEN, we got a postcard with a PIN number for a Value resort rate of $59/night, so we decided to scrap Doubletree, and stay at Pop for the remaining 6 nights of our trip. We wanted to add the dining plan for those 6 nights (for a total of 9 nights worth of Dining) but our AAA agent said the only way we can do that is with a one-day ticket pass added, so that it becomes a package. I don't want to add another one-day pass, because of cost, and I think we're going enough days as it is. I like my kids to have a couple of days off to re-group. So I figured we were out of luck.
THEN, my best friend who is also a Disney addict said that was hogwash. She said that Disney would allow us to add the dining plan as long as we're staying on their property (which makes sense, really). Is it just through AAA that we can't do it unless it's a package? Does anyone know?
Thank you so much!

No, you MUST buy atleast a 1 day ticket to get the dining plan. No way around it. What about rebooking your whole stay at POP and pay for just 1 base ticket (or whatever you need)? POP is better than CS anyway, LOL ;)

We've done the room/dining package twice now. We already have Annual Passes, but we HAD to buy at least 1 day passes. No way around it.

Bear in mind, though, that the Dining Plan is considered a 'discount' on meals. You are not allowed to stack the discounts, so you'd have to pay rack rate for your room. You cannot take advantage of the $59 special rate AND have the dining plan....its one or the other.

The only folks that can purchase the DDP without a ticket is DVC'ers staying on points in the DVC villas.

Otherwise, DDP is part of the Magic Your Way package. Typically, the MYW package is rack rates for rooms. By getting a code, that would negate your ability to turn it into a package anyway.

You are right. The OP has a couple of problems here. They can't use the pin code and purchase the dining plan. The friend was also wrong. You have to purchase a ticket with the dining plan package.

Thank you for the answers! I called my friend this morning and told her she was wrong. I'd rather take the great room rate and pay for a few meals OOP. We're still doing dining for our first 3 nights, since we're paying rack rate for Coronado, so at least we'll get to experience it.
You saved me an embarrassing phone call to Disney!

If you do want the dining plan, ask disney if that PIN code is good for a package - quite often it is.

The 40% off room email / mailer that came out earlier in the year was good as both a room only AND a package (where you could add DDP).

It is a myth that you ALWAYS have to pay rack rate to book the DDP. You can get a AAA/CAA discount on a package as well as most Disney offered General discount codes - I can say for sure and for certain in Dec 05 and Oct 06, Disney offered a discount which could be applied to either a room only or a MYW package (with or without dining).

:hippie: Dispelling the DDP "rack rate" myth, one post at a time. :hippie:
