While we were having our bags inspected before entering MK, some guy in front of us had a soft-sided cooler. Security opened it up and found it was packed w/beer cans. Not one or two among the cans of Coke ... but the whole thing was filled w/beer. The guy put some ice on top of it ... but Security wasn't stupid -- they looked at what the cans contained.

Canned or bottled beer is not allowed in the park, unless you find a WDW restaurant to purchase it in! Keep the beer in your room. Security took this guys beer away (and he looked pretty sad about it, too). I didn't even hear them offer the option to return it to his room.

That was truly sad and funny at the same time. What was that guy thinking? This is the first time I'm hearing of something like that.

There was a lady two lines down who tried to bring in a Swiss Army knife. Something about opening a can of baby formula for her daugther. They sell ready made in plastic containers now. Unreal.

My husband carries a Leatherman tool with him all the time. He thinks he's McGyver:hyper:

Last time we were at the parks he had to surrender it and pick it up at the end of the day. Someone even had to walk us to the gate. Had he thought about it, he wouldn't have even brought it but I guess he's so used to putting it on everyday he just clipped it on his belt without thinking.

That is too funny! I've seen someone have the rootbeer in bottles confiscated.

About the rolling backpacks I saw more of these this last week than in the past. I even saw a lady pulling a huge soft sided cooler with another bag on top. She took up a seat in Millionare with it and could have fed my crew for a week with what she had in it.

That whole bringing a full course meal to the park really urks me. I don't really know why. I have yet to see someone pull out a set of china to serve on.

LOL. I also shared the McGyver thing with my DH and he can relate to your DH. DH says that every man in that point in time wanted to be like McGyver. Oh please!

I wouldn't dream of trying to bring a cooler or rolling suitcase to one of the theme parks. Even if things like that were not specifically banned (as they are, except for medical reasons), they just don't make good sense. I like packing light and being able to move quickly - gotta be on the first Dumbo ride of the day ya know.

However...

We brought a medium sized, soft-sided, extending-handle, rolling suitcase style cooler to Blizzard Beach on Monday - and it was perfect! It held more than enough Gatoraide and snacks to keep three adults, one child, and one infant fueled throughout the day. One external pocket served as a diaper bag and the other held sunblock etc. I was even able to stack our towels on top of it on the way in.

The Disney waterpark guidelines state that you can bring one small cooler per group. This has been interpreted as small enough that one person could carry. I had no trouble lifting it over that turnstyle and was not hassled about it. The bag inspection girl shuffled through it a little bit, and then let us go. Many of the other guest didn't seem to know that they could even bring a cooler. Yup, there was some serious cooler-envy going on

I did not know you could bring a cooler into the parks. I will be packing a small soft one in my carryon. This way I can bring some stuff in for me and DS. Not much mind you but somethings.

dont bring a rolling backpack
You have got to be kidding me!! I must have been ran over by or tripped over at least 5 of these things at MK alone. I think that people bring them in on their backs and as soon as they're past security, put them down and roll them. We did see a CM stop one group w/one and told them they had to carry it on their back. We saw them later, rolling that thing behind them. I was so mad!!!! We even saw one guy rolling one along the line at BTMRR!

I think people try to get away w/them as much as possible. Too bad the CM's just don't take them away altogether when they see them in use! You abuse the system, you lose the pack until the end of the day! I don't know ... but something has to be done. I still have a bruise from a guy backing one into me.

I haven't seen these but I'm surprised its such a bad thing. They seem less likely than a stroller to run into someone. It sounded like a good option for a family ready to try to ditch the stroller but not ready to ditch all the stuff the stroller carried. Maybe a good option is to bring an umbrella stroller to carry your overloaded backpack around!

Okay - don't flame me - but unless you have medical needs why would someone want to carry around a cooler or giant backpack all day - whether it's on your back or your dragging it behind you. What can someone possibly need that they can't get in the parks.

DD's & I carry small fanny packs & water bottle holders. We bring snacks & a drink & we tie our sweatshirts around our waist if we think we will need it. I can't be bothered dragging things around all day. JMO!

All the power to those that do carry all those things with them.

I am going to bring in a soft cooler and rent a locker and then return when we are ready to eat. You have three small backpacks going with us for a group of 11. We are just going to tote around the essentials, water, some snacks, small towels, meds, keys, caps and sunglasses....Does this seem reasonable??

Before kids, I couldn't understand why people would lug stuff around all day either ! Hubby and I just had our fanny packs and we were good to go. Now, after children we are out there with the best of them lugging around all our "stuff". We still use the stroller, so it's not too bad. With kids it's better to be prepared or else everyone is miserable !!! LOL...........

At the Disney Store site they have this soft roller Mickey cooler. Anybody seen it?

I thought it would be good for us to take it into Blizzard Beach, AK or Epcot. I wouldn't take anything into MK or MGM because we like to really move in those parks.

I'm still bebating whether or not to get it. Since it has Mickey written all over it I think it wouldn't be a big deal to roll it around the parks.

Does anyone have a picture of that cooler from DS?

That cooler is too cute !! It would be perfect to take with you ! I would get one too, if we didn't have so many other coolers !! Hubby would go crazy trying to find room for another cooler, especially with mickey on it. He's thinks I'm a fanatic as it is. I'm not.........am I?..............:earsgirl:

Whatever you do do not be like me!
I am obsessed with bringing five sets of extra clothes for myself!
The reaction on the faces of the security guard as I go through
the checkpoint by myself and I am carrying for example: 2 pairs of jeans, 3 pairs of shirts, 4 shirts, a jacket, etc.....
My mother thinks I am crazy, but I have a thing with being in control of my situation.....lol.. So I feel the need to pack extras due to rain, Splash Mountain (you can get wet there), food stains on my clothing, etc..... Just whatever you do... be prepared but not TOO prepared...lol

I do not think rolling coolers are allowed in WDW. I saw a security guard stop one this summer.

LOL Fig! Don't worry about getting wet! It feels good and you WILL dry off in the hot FL heat! :sunny:

Just don't wear anything fancy! It's just water...
