I'm not sure if you meant "requested" or "demanded". I don't think she demanded it. As for requesting it, it's not that uncommon. We were celebrating my birthday on our trip. The resort CM's told me to wear my button all week, so I did. In one restaurant, 5 servers came and sang. We saw people being sung to at 50's PTC, 'Ohana, and Les Chefs.

Do you think what you are referring to is the same thing being described here? Did you ask (request, demand, decree, order, whatever it may be) your server to sing Happy Birthday to you?

You have got to be kidding me that is...there is no excuse for comments like that I don't care how bad your day is going. I would have been mad to tears if anyone made that comment to someone, especially a grandmother. That is just awful

Speaking for myself, I wouldn't sing either. I don't even sing "happy birthday" to family members because I'm such a bad singer.

We are also here now. Our dining was good for the most part. Narcoossee was wonderful. Ate at LeCelier today and the food was great. We really like a light lunch at The Plaza and it did not disappoint. Teppan Edo was good and the chef was entertaining. BOG was a real treat. Loved the atmosphere and the food was very good. Going to Gardenview Tea tomorrow.

Our biggest disappointment was Les Chefs. The food was mediocre, but the service was okay.

BTG = Brazilian Tour Groups.

EXTREMELY hot topic on the DIS.

Summary: Brazilians (teens and young adults from what I've heard) that tour WDW...usually in the summer months. I've heard stories of rudeness, loudness, and general things like that. But, I've also heard stories of happiness,
kindness and general things like that, so it's hit or miss.

*Only going on what I've heard from this forum.

I hate your week wasn't as magical. It sounds like Thanksgiving week was better.

Even most ECV drivers were good. The ones that weren't really were bad. They would shoot across the walkways regardless of people being there. There were times that several would take up most of the walkway so they could all talk. Like I said, though, most were good.

CM's were great except for a couple. Many were telling people Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas and full of smiles. If they saw us looking for something, they offered to help. They seemed to love looking for hidden mickeys in the lights with us or giving us hints if they knew where some were. There were CM's that told me "happy birthday" that I didn't even know they saw the button. One was a dancer in the street party. She was dancing all over and managed to wave and tell me. They were cheerful even on Thanksgiving Day when I know it would be harder to be away from home. I've talked on another thread about one in GR who needs more training.

We had great servers almt everywhere except we weren't impressed at Nine Dragons. He acted like he was doing us a favor. I think we saw him when we placed the order and when he brought the check.

I will say that the restrooms seemed to not to be as consistently clean. Most were ok. But, there was one that looked like a pack of wild animals ran through. Speaking of which, most guests even were nice and friendly. But, there did seem to be an abundance of people who must have thought their legs would fall off if they walked 10 feet to the trashcan. I hate that because Disney is so beautiful, I try to be careful to not even accidentally drop things. People were just throwing cups down.

It's out of line for your grandmother to order a server to sing to you. In what restaurant anywhere would you do that? It's just not appropriate.

That being said, a skilled server should be able to decline the request in a fun and pleasant manner.

Where did you get that the grandmother ordered someone to sing? The post said nothing even close to that!

Most of the time, my experience with them isn't too terribly bad. But, we quit going in the summer. They have at times taken up the entire walkway and even decided to sit in a grouo on one at one park. They literally took up the whole walkway. The chanting is probably the worst. At first, I thought it wasn't too bad but every attraction line every day got old. Really. Really. Really. Old.

Yes, there are places where they sing to you and you request it, but the distinction here is you do not ask an individual to sing for you.

I didn't. I know people who have requested it, and I've even worked in the food industry many many years ago and sung (very very quietly). I've never heard of anyone being offended by the request. I've never seen or heard anyone demand or order a server to sing. As for the others I saw and heard being sung to....I have no idea if it was requested or not. It sounds like the grandmother has seen it done and was excited to celebrate a birthday. I just don't see the supposed offense.

Ooooh, I understand now. The other poster and I are envisioning grandma was asking if the server can go and get other servers and they do the typical "happy birthday" song with a piece of cake or cupcake or ice cream or even just sing to help them celebrate. You are envisioning grandma was ordering the server to just stand there and belt it out.

Sorry maybe I didn't explain clearly. I had been wearing my birthday button all day on my lanyard. During the meal a large group of servers gathered to sing happy birthday and happy anniversary songs to multiple other tables in the restaurant. As it came time for dessert my grandmother simply asked do you guys do something for birthdays and her response was in lines of, sit here, don't you think the fireworks are good enough? About two minutes later our server joined a group of servers singing happy birthday to the table two tables down from us. And, I worked as a waitress for 4 years and have been asked about birthday songs about a million times.

I am also here now and do agree that some ECV drivers can be rude and do not know how to handle the ECV that they are on; however, I have also seen many people walk right out in front of ECV's and are not paying attention and I know that they do not stop on a dime especially in these crowded parks. I am fortunate to not have to use an ECV but these are the observations that I have made this week.

I am a server and it is absolutely acceptable to ask the server if they can sing happy birthday!!! Who are you to say its out of line, you just say its her birthday, can you sing happy birthday?! If the restraunt allows it, go for it. We can't at my work due to copyright reasons, but my old job we could!
It's out of line when someone chimes in on stuff they know nothing about and try and put someone else down!

We are also here now and have been since Sunday. We usually come to Disney the first or second week in December and i definitely notice that the crowds are heavier this year. I read so many times on this board that you will not even notice the pop warner kids. We have DEFINITELY noticed them, mainly at night. They have all been very well behaved, but they come in VERY large groups. We have been getting to the parks early and coming back late in order to avoid the crowds. Our vacation has been wonderful, but much more crowded than in the past.

My biggest disappointment has been the restaurants. We have a few restaurants that we visit every trip because we love them so much and we have left looking at each other going "what was going on in there tonight?" Food has been OK and service has been terrible. I usually just go with the flow and figure everyone has an off night, but this has been happening over and over. My biggest disappointment was Le Cellier. I was so excited to finally eat there and both the service and food were a disappointment.

I will definitely not let this ruin my trip, I just wanted to post some things I have noticed that I have not seen in the past. My stay at the Poly, however, never disappoints. I love being here and will miss the resort once I leave. It is one of my favorite parts of coming to Disney!!!

The weather has been amazing. We went to the water park yesterday and felt like we had it all to ourselves. Definitely the place to go for a break from the crowds.

When we were there a few weeks ago the ecv's were out of control! My daughter was hit by one and still has a scar on her ankle! The woman did not even apologize. We also saw people making faces and getting annoyed because people would not get out of their way. Very dangerous!
