Here goes, my first PTR.....*UPDATE 9/27* only one day left!!

Our trips have both been during my kids' fall break from school... but I don't see any problem with pulling your kids out for a family vacation. In fact, I'd love for my family to go to WDW sometime during November or December (so we can see all the holiday decorations) and if we do this, then I'd have to take my kids out of school.

Fingers crossed you can get the flights you need!

Somebody almost always has something to criticize someone else for. But what works for your family works for your family, it's not somebody else's place to say what you are doing is correct or incorrect. My parents almost always took me out of school to go to WDW, and it was completely fine.

I'm sorry about the flight issues that you are having, it seems like there is always something that throws a partial wrench into the planning. But don't worry, it will all work out for the best in the end.

:goodvibes

You won't get any argument from me about taking your kids out of school! We homeschool and when you do that, you realize just how very much kids learn out here in the real world! If my kids were in school, I wouldn't even think twice about taking them out for family time! They are only young once and these memories last a lifetime. Schoolwork can be caught up and done anytime! :thumbsup2

With all the things going on in the kids' school these days I've been thinking homeschooling is the way to go!
If they were in higher grades and it was during exams or some other major event I would try to find another time, but now while they're younger I figured it was a good time to take them back and give MJ the WDW birthday experience.

We don't get a Fall break here, but I'd love it if they did! lol The only breaks we get here that is longer than a day or two is Christmas, March break, and Summer Vacation. We couldn't justify going back in March and being there for RT's birthday again, it just didn't seem fair. It was a beautiful time to go though, especially with driving down as we started out in snow and ended up in beautiful sunny weather! It was like driving through the seasons. Coming back wasn't as nice! lol
But, we wanted to experience it a different time of year this time and MJ's birthday was perfect as it's in the Fall. Different time of year and different things happening at the parks (F&W, and MNSSHP).
Now if we ever make it back for AR's birthday, which I am really hoping we do, we'll get to experience it in December! The kids will be older and we'll end up taking them over their Christmas break. It will be much more costly I'm sure so it'll have to be many years down the road!!! lol

Can you tell I have yet to learn how to quote multiple times in one post?!
Yes, there is always a few unforseen issues when planning a trip, we had them last time and expected to have them again. Everything was going so well we were hopeful it would just be a few small snags. Oh well, we still have some time :)

Our schools used to not get a Fall Break... I don't know how many years ago it was that the calendar changed (and the reason behind the change) but now school starts back in mid-August, instead of after Labor Day (September). I think last year the first day of school was August 12th!!! So for some reason (again, I don't know why) the start date was pushed back and the students are given a Fall Break for a week in October.

Now there is talk about reverting back to the old schedule... the first day of school would be late August/first of September, and there would be no more Fall Break. The schools asked for parents to vote on the issue... as much as I hate them going to school so early in August, it's been nice having that week off in October, since my family has used this week for vacations. So, we'll see what happens!

I think you'll enjoy WDW in the fall!

To do a multi-quote post, click the button that looks like "+ [it's between the "Quote" button and the "Quick Reply" button]. Once you do this, the button should turn red and you would just click the same button on all the ones that you would like to multi-quote.

Oh ic, I didn't realize that some places go back so early. Our kids don't go back to school until just before Labour Day (depending on how early it is, sometimes it's just after as they never start in August). They get out the last day of June or there abouts.
I'm looking forward to WDW in the fall, just not what we'll be returning to!! lol

Woo hoo, I did it!! Thanks so much. Now if I could learn how to post photos I'd be all set! :rotfl:

I forgot to mention that with school starting so early here, the last day of school is before Memorial Day (the last Monday in May). So in that aspect it's nice, but it seems the first day of school gets earlier and earlier each year!

There may be other ways to post photos, but the way I do it is to first upload your pics to a photo sharing site (I use Photobucket).

On Photobucket, once the pics are uploaded, I click on the one I want. To the right is a box that says "share this photo". Copy the selection for IMG code and paste it in your message where you want it to go.

If you need further help, just let me know!

Loving your first PTR! I am doing my first one too right now! We are leaving for WDW in 8 days!!!!

And I am a teacher and HATE that the only times we can go on vacations is during the summer and holidays! I wish we had a Fall break...

Sounds easy enough, but did I mention that I'm basically computer illererate?! :rotfl2: I don't know if I can figure out photobucket, but I just might give it a try. I have a ton of photos from our first trip and would love to share some of them...I took nearly 2000 photos in total:eek:
Thanks for your help :)

Welcome to my PTR, I must pop over and check yours out, and I better do it soon or it'll be a TR!:rotfl:

Well, I joined photobucket and got a picture uploaded there. Saved it in an album and tried to post it here, but it was huge. So I resized it and saved it in photobucket, deleted the original huge one, and then tried to post it here but it was still the same size. What am I doing wrong? How do I get it smaller so that I can post it here?:confused3

Hmmmm... I've noticed that sometimes when I've done the same thing (posted a pic here, only to find it too big... go back to PhotoBucket, resize pic and post again) that sometimes it takes a minute for the photo to resize in the post.

Does that make sense?

The same thing happened to me with one of the photos I posted... I changed the size and re-posted it, but on here it was still the same size as before. I left it as it was, and then the next time I went back into the thread the photo was the correct (smaller) size. :confused3

So give it another try, click out of your thread and open it back up...

Thanks yet again, PixieMama!! I think it worked this time, and is smaller. Probably not as small as it should be. It is a photo of Dh and I with France at WS in the background, at Epcot. It's the only photo of just him and I from the entire trip! lol

There you are! ;)

I don't have many photos of me and DH together at WDW, either... as I'm usually the one behind the camera!

Yay for photos!! :thumbsup2 You guys make a lovely couple! Hope to see more pics!

Glad you learned how to post pics.

I think it should be the families decision to take kids out of school for fammily trips. We were told that if a kid misses 10 unexcused days of school that we would have to reregister and pay the fee again.:scared1: As long as the kids are doing good and you talk to the teacher so they don't fall to behind, what is the problem???:confused3

Yay for pics! It's nice to *see* you, that's a cute shot! My dh and I also have a shot in france, but it was at night on the bridge and it's a little blurry!

Thanks everyone!! I'm so excited that I was able to learn how to post photos! :cool1:

I know it's off the Disney topic, but I wanted to show you a few pictures of my Mom:littleangel: I hope you don't mind me sharing them with you all...
