Okay, we are going to Disney World Jan 29, and coming home Feb 2nd. Me, DH, DD 3, and DS 1. We have a pretty low key itinerary. Arrive Sat, MK Sunday, no park Monday, and DHS Tuesday, and leave Wednesday. We are doing the DxDP, so our down days are filled with restaurant reservations, dinner shows, etc. I like to fly Southwest because of the no baggage fees, and there is a flight down that I like leaving at 8:50 and arriving around 11:30 am nonstop. I like to fly nonstop becuase of the little ones. However, the only nonstop flight they have returning on Wednesday leave at 9:20 am. We currently have a ADR at Chef Mickey's wednesday morning thinking we would leave later that afternoon.

Airtran has a flight nonstop that leave at 4:00 pm for the same price as southwest, but then there are of course baggage fees, and seat charges that will add up to close to $50.

So, is it worth the extra money in fees to leave later in the afternoon. I am thinking of flying Southwest down, and then maybe taking the 4:00 pm Airtran flight back home. What would you do? Thanks for the advice....

It depends on your ground transportation to. Your going to lose up to 2 and a half hours if you don't have a car.

I would op for that extra time in FL. Unless you make a few trips a year and will be going back soon.

I'd pay the extra $ to fly AT. I'm a big SWA fan too but that's a big difference in time. When we do short trips like that, it's even more important to have good flight times, imho. That 9:20 flight on SW would require you to be at MCO by 7:20am. That would make for getting up before the crack of dawn which doesn't quite leave happy Disney memories in my head on the way home, kwim?

If you were considering Early Bird Check in w/SWA, it would cost you $40 anyway. (We find it's worth it for our return flight but not so much for our departing leg.)
With your kids' ages, I would def buy seats at time of booking. :thumbsup2 My kids are 10 & 13 and I still pay for seat selection when we fly AT. So worth being stress-free.

I would take the later flight with Airtran. It is worth the extra money to enjoy the last day of your vacation and not feel like you missed out.

Is that $50 total or per ticket?

Personally, either way I would book the later flight. I wouldn't want to get up at the crack of dawn to come home
