We went the week after Easter last year so for Easter morning we hid eggs for them,( girls ages then 8,4, 3) inside each egg was a puzzle piece. After they found all the eggs, they opened them and we pooled all the pieces together, and they began to put it together. It was a picture (homemade puzzle) of a Disney airplane and said "Surprise, We are going to Disney World!" They were out of this world excited. We left the following Thursday! They had 5 days to get even more excited and pack!

That was our surprise! You will find that there are lots of great ideas here on the dis!

Here's a link to my post for what we are doing this year. My guys are 7, 4, and 3:

You could do something similar but instead of unscrambling letters you could have items in a box and have them guess what they could all mean. I was going to do that this year, but since my daughter just learned to read, I figured the letter thing would work! For the box, I was going to put in a little toy gecko we have, (my kids love seeing them cross our path when we're in FL!) a picture of a mountain (to represent splash mountain), maybe a bottle of sunscreen, etc.

Last year we did the tell-them-the-morning-of surprise and it was fun. THey had thought we were going to Home Depot (which they hate!) to get boring yard stuff, and then revealed the surprise and had our truck packed and ready to go.

Check out youtube too, you can find lots of ideas on there, I just can't remember any right now!

Good luck & have fun - and let us know what you decide :thumbsup2

Just be prepared that you may not get a big reaction. We have taken both my nieces (7 and 9 at the time of their trips) and surprised them with a box of Disney stuff about a month or two before their trip (one was at Easter...trip was early June....the other was at an end of Sept birthday and trip was early Dec). Neither was overly excited.

DS6 we just load up the car and leave. We don't tell him where we are going. Usually takes him about 1/2 way to the airport when he realizes where we are going. We get a cool or yes...but not the shrieks and screams you see on tv. Now we do go a lot (2-3 times a year) so it may not be as exciting to him as too some kids. But we have never gotten the awesome reactions we see on tv with him or our nieces.

We're leaving on a Tuesday morning in a couple weeks and the kids don't know.
They actually think I'm (DD) am leaving for a business trip that morning and fully expect to be in school that week. Why wouldn't they, right..

Our flight leaves at 6am, so we'll be waking them up just as the car is packed and we're ready to take off for the airport...probaby around 4am.

We're already starting to go thru the summer clothes and DW is actually out shopping with DD9 for new shorts and tanks.

The Sunday before we leave, I'll have to take the kids out for the day as DW puts the finishing touches on the packing.

Both kids love to sleep in but don't anticipate too much pushback when we annouce our plan for the week.

WHO WANTS TO SPEND A WEEK AT THE AKL!!!!!!!
