Help with Hotel for Five People near Park

2-3 years ago we were finding rates of less than $90 a night (though not for 6). I am bummed that those days are long gone.
:p And if you think that's bad, you ought to try it getting only $0.61 exchange against the Canadian dollar. :sad2:We're going to Europe this year instead.

I really want to know how people get great hotel rates. I am not sure if people are really getting better rates than I am, or if they are looking at prices after inventory has been snatched up. I have a hard time finding rates better than Desert Inn lately, though I will admit I said this on a recent post and then found I could get a room at HOJO for cheaper. I just looked and the Portofino kid suite that sleeps 6 is $160 a night in late September (7 months out). We've already tentatively booked a room that sleeps 6 at Desert Inn for $119 a night plus the $17 per night fees. I'd love it if I actually found something that can sleep six and was less than Desert Inn. Again I'm really curious if this is me not knowing how to get better rates, or a matter of inventory reflecting prices as dates get closer.
That is a really good rate for a room to sleep 6. I just punched in the last of Sept at the Stanford Inn & Suites and the kids suite with 1 bathroom came back at 115.00 a night from a link in their website (not sure if that is a refundable rate or not) they have Free Parking and Breakfast. Is the 17.00 a night at portofino your taxes or a resort fee? I don't remember any additional fee besides taxes at Stanford...

We narrowed our last trip down to Portofino, Del Sol and Standford Inn and ended up at Stanford because we got a better rate (we even rebooked a few weeks out when they had a better offer on their site without hassle). There wasn't anything that would have kept us from going back so that is where we are staying again.

If you book through somewhere like Get Away Today you can get 4th night free offers at several of the notes which can help bring the costs down. Obviously based on availability and the number of rooms they have access to in their inventory.

So much of it is based on inventory and you just have to book when you think you have a good rate and then just keep checking in case something better comes up. For that reason I would always book rates that are refundable even if it is a little more per night to do so...

The $17 fees are at the Desert Inn. They charge a parking fee and a resort fee, and it's gone up over the last two years. The room sleeps six, but it isn't as nice as the ones I saw on the Portofino site. But DI is so close, and it was cheaper. However my mom wants to come with us on that trip, and she isn't thrilled about the layout. But she's never stayed at DI and I'm trying to convince her that the location is the big plus. I will go look at the Stanford Inn for our dates.

Have you stayed at DI&S before? If you have then I would call them directly and ask for their returning guest rate.

I have, twice. I could try that. Thank you.

I did check out the Stanford Inn and for our nights with the pre-book (non refundable) rate averages to $122 a night.

Definitely sounds like a great rate at Desert Inn & Suites if there aren't any additional fees and its closer to the parks too! I would be extremely happy if got that rate (we are also a family of 6), but that doesn't mean I wouldn't keep checking around on occasion, just in case!

There are extra fees of $17 a night, but that is still only $136 a night. But I'll keep looking anyway. If my mom wasn't coming we could have stayed at HOJO with an AP discount for less, but they do not have rooms for 6.
