Help with Free Dinning

I just noticed that the "free Dining" option is available during the time I will be in WDW. I am purchasing an AP this year (so I can get a discount on my room rate), but DH will be purchasing the magic your way ticket.

Since we are doing the AP rate for the rooms, does that mean we will not be eligible for the free dinning in any way?

Can anyone figure out how DH could be eligible for the free dinning if he buys the MYW ticket..........?

The Free Dining plan is offered by Disney (I saw an ad for it this weekend in the travel section of my local paper--in Canada). The special is that if you travel for 5 days or more at a WDW resort between Aug 21 -Oct 8th (I think) the dining plan is included. We were very excited about this when my agent from DU emailed us to let us know we got this deal !!!! We have been booked since Jan at POFQ for Aug 21-28 and had booked the dining plan as well. This deal is AMAZING as we are saving over $700 US (which is almost $1000CND).
All our priority seating was already booked by our agent (including breakfast at Cindy's) when we found out we were getting this deal. We we thrilled just to get in at Cindy's never mind ---getting all our meals FREE!!!
We can't wait.

There is a lot of good information on this at the Codes and Rates board. Basically, many AP holders found that paying rack rates for a MYW package with free dining with a 1 day basic ticket was a better deal than getting AP room rates without the dining package. Then they would not use the 1 day ticket and apply it to their AP renewal next year.

Also, since the free dining package is a set amount saved, this promotion is a better deal if you are staying at a value or moderate resort. I think the AP rates for this time period are $70 off per night for deluxes, the same as the savings for 2 adults for the dining package. The difference is that with the dining package you stand to save more than just the price of the package. You can pretty much save the majority of your food costs if you plan it right. So, it probably is a better bet even for the deluxe resorts.

I guess maybe it would be a better savings than the AP if we planned to eat at Sit down meals everynight,,, correct? What is the average dollar amount they give you for each meal. I am not sure if we would make out that well as we are happy with a quick bite at the resort and a few sit down meals throughout the week. I am a very light eater anyway. Hmm, I guess I'll have to average it out and see.

They don't give you a dollar amount for each meal, they give you meals.

For every night you are at a WDW resort you get 1 counter service meal, 1 table service meal, and 1 snack. It doesn't matter what the price is. Both you and your dh's credits would be combined for all days. Use them in any order you wish.

The cost of the package is $35 per adult times the number of nights of the stay. If you do intend to eat a table service meal then it is very easy to reach $35 a day. If you are a light eater you could use a snack credit for lunch or breakfast and save your counter credit. Dh could use it if he likes larger meals. It is very flexible.
