Instead of a gift exchange my daughter's class is going to have each child teach the class a project for the holidays, we will have to bring enough for each child in the class to do its own craft, food, etc..., they will not have accesss to an oven or stove. The only thing that I could thing of was candy canes with red and white pipe cleaners, but they did that in kindergarten. (I am craft challenged), I also need to keep the cost per child fairly low, as there are 18 kids in the class.......

So please can you help me.........I really have no idea, I just read the great threads on goodies, and thought that this group could come up with something.
I really will appreciate any suggestions.

You can buy some candy canes, brown pipe cleaners, tiny red pompoms, and some googly eyes and make Rudolph candy canes for the tree. You bend the brown pipe cleaner around the top of the candy cane for his antlers, glue the pompom on the end of the hook, and the eyes just under the antlers. They are quick and easy for elementary kids and for craft challenged adults!!!

Last year we did a project that involved "mock" gingerbread ornaments. They sold the kit at places like Target or Joanns. The kits included glitter glue, gel pens, pre-cut ornaments and hanging cords. It was very inexpensive, perhaps $10.00 for the entire class(22 kids).

You could buy craft paper and tempra paints and have the kids make gift wrap. Shapes could be cut from sponges and every sheet would be unique.

A really fun thing we did in brownies was....

Buy the glass ornaments balls that are clear... usually 12 in a box for $4-$5. These are the ornaments that are normally red, green, blue, gold and silver.

You take the top off of the ornament so that you could fill the inside with stuff. What we did was we bought a bunch of different colored paint, (just the cheap stuff you find in the craft department). You put 1-2 or 3 colors in, and roll the paint around in the ornament so that the whole ornament gets colored. You need to be careful not to use too much paint or colors that will not mix very good. You can do 1 color at a time on the bottom, then put another color in and swish it around. Once they were dry, we put real pretty ribbon to hang on the tree. The kids had so much fun doing this. We even sold some and used the $$$ for charity that year. You can have so much fun with the colors, school colors, football team colors.

We just made paper snowflakes at home. Take white paper (computer) fold the top corner down to form a square, cut off the extra strip. Fold the square in half into a triangle, then in half again to another triangle. Cut out a variety of shapes in the paper using scissors and/or a hole punch. Unfold. Apply glue where desired using a glue stick and sprinkle on glitter. Tie a piece of ribbon in one corner to hang. Easy and inexpensive especially if the school has some or all of the supplies.

SNOWMAN'S SOUP
1 individual pkg of instant hot cocoa
a few minature marshmellows
a few hersey kisses
1 candy cane to stir

You can make this into a cute, inexpensive gift. Buy mugs at the dollar store. Buy a box of "premium" hot chocolate mix some mini marshmallows and candy canes. Stuff a packet of mix, a little baggie of marshmallows and a candy cane in each mug and add a bow. Or just bring Ziploc Baggies and have them add the ingredients into the little baggie to take home

Make a tag with one of these poems....................

When it's so cold that
you holler and whoop,
It's time to bring out
the Snowman Soup!

Pour the packet in a mug.
Add the snowballs too.
And throw in the kisses
from the snowman to you.

Now fill with hot water
and use the cane to stir it.
Sip slowly and soon you'll
feel the warm winter spirit

............................or..................

I've heard that you've been good this year
Always glad to hear it
With freezing weather drawing near
You'll need to warm the spirit
So here's a little Snowman Soup
Complete with stirring stick
Just add hot water, sip it slow
It's sure to do the trick!

Those are all so terrific, thank you so much.....

I just made 80 candy trains for all the teachers in my DS's school. It's really easy...however, you do need to use a hot glue gun. Just take a roll of Lifesavers and wrap some pretty Christmas paper around it (don't worry about covering the foils ends), then glue four peppermints on for wheels. Next, take a foil-wrapped candy bell and glue it upside down on the top-end for the smoke stack, then add another piece of foil-wrapped candy (try to find something square-shaped) to the other end for the cab. They are really cute. For the teachers, we attached a gift-tag that says "Thanks for keeping our kids on the right track".

If you can buy the peppermint/chocolates in bulk, and find the Lifesavers on sale (the Lifesaver Storybooks are great because there are 8 rolls in the box) you could easily make these for .25 to .50 each.

Super-cheap and super-easy: Reindeer pins
Buy 1 used box of puzzle pieces (don't care what the puzzle is, but need jigsaw pieces)...I usually get one at Goodwill for about 50 cents
Buy 1 bottle of brown paint (costs about 80 cents at Walmart)
Buy 1 package of small googly eyes (costs about $2 to get enough for whole class)
Buy 1 package of small red pompoms (cost about $1)
Buy 1 package of pin backs (costs about $1)

Have each child pick 3 puzzle pieces and paint them brown....you can even use markers to color them brown.
Glue two puzzle pieces to top corners of third puzzle piece to form antlers.
Shape should be ___ [____ (long, upright then long)
[
Now glue eyes and one pom pom on front "face" puzzle piece
Glue pin back on back of the whole thing

Other easy one: Kiss ornaments
Use 2 Hershey kisses (holiday colors or regular silver ones) and a piece of ribbon....
Glue flat bottom of one kiss to loop of ribbon to flat bottom of other kiss.

Ok...hope I can describe these...

CUTE elf project! Each child needs:

1/2 of a popsicle stick (I have used large and small size - large might be easier for that age)
6 half pieces of pipe cleaner in holiday colors
marker for mouth and eyes (or googly eyes are very cute)

hold popsicle stick round side up-picture this as the body of the elf. Take two pieces of pipe cleaner and hold them straight up and down against the back side of the popsicle stick, hanging past the stick (these will be legs). Take another piece of pipe cleaner and start wrapping the body of the elf over the "legs" to hold them on. Be sure to leave about a 1/2 inch at the top of the stick for the face. Then take another piece of pipe cleaner and hold it along the back of the body making a "t" shape. Wrap it around once or twice leaving pipe cleaner on either side out to form arms. Now take another piece of pipe cleaner and wrap the round tip of the stick for a hat - you may not need the whole pipe cleaner and can trim as needed. You're ready for the face - add marker for features or use googly eyes. Bend the arms and legs as desired and you have a cute elf! I have also put tiny pompoms on the top of the hat with hot glue. Hope you can visualize this - it's really easy and I've helped kindergartners make these many times.

Coffee Filter Santa:

1 coffee filter per child
tiny pompom - white or green- per child
2 googly eyes per child
scissors/glue
markers
red construction paper square or pre-cut red triangles to fit coffee filter point

Fold coffee filter into 4ths. Should make a nice triangle shape with rounded bottom. Hold it point up and cut "fringe" into the bottom part for Santa's beard leaving middle portion for the face, top for hat. Cut red hat to fit top corner or use pre-cut hat. Add pom pom on top, googly eyes rosy cheeks, mouth, nose with marker. Wa-La! Can also make a hanger from paper clip to make a tree ornament - just poke through the top.

Popsicle stick tree:

1 popsicle stick per child
3 pieces of popsicle stick (in graduated sizes large, medium, small) per child
green craft or tempera paint (or the sticks could be pre-painted)
sequins, buttons, glitter (or not ;)), star stickers, anything to decorate the tree
glue
yarn

Have the children paint the sticks if needed. They usually dry quickly, so set them aside for a little while to dry. Glue the smaller sticks across the whole stick to make a Christmas tree shape. Add decorations, a loop of yarn across the back to hang, and you're done!

I could go on and on...I teach pre-K and K...can you tell? Let me know if you need something else!
Have fun and tell the teacher this is a great idea imo!!! :flower:

These are some great ideas!

I keep rereading that original post. 18 kids doing 18 projects, wow, that is going to take forever to get done...

ooohh...just read the other ideas....

red hots
small zip lock bags
computer-typed poem

This Christmas I thought of giving you roses...
Instead here's a bag of reindeer noses!

Happy Holidays!

Of course, there's always the "snowman poop" one too, but I thought that might not be appropriate! ;)

Rudolph Ornament
You really don't even need to have the little holly embelishment. We made these one year - with just 3 popsicle sticks, small red pompom, google eyes, ribbon and glue.

Wow I was putting up the christmas tree last night and I found all of my preschool holiday crafts.

Some that I found were:

Rudolph ornament- Take a red ball-ornament and make rudolph. We used a brown pom-pom for the snout, googly eyes, and small red pom-pom for the nose (on the snout). And the adults cut antlers out of felt for us. The antlers are glued to the back of the ornament. Maybe the teacher can write their name and year on the back with a paint pen. They are easy to make and the only thing needed is glue. I am now out of college and my brother is almost done and we still have these ornaments and put them on the tree every year.

A reindeer clothespin ornament - Take two clothespins. (Not the kind with the spring in the middle) Glue the clothespins together so that if you look at them from the front they have "feet". The "feet" allow you to easily put the reindeer on the christmas tree. Add a pom-pom nose and some small googly eyes on the face. Add felt antlers to the top and a small pom-pom tail on the back. I still have a few of these on my tree also.

Christmas Moose.
Take Brown fun foam and trace around the kids hands and one foot. The foot becomes the face of the moose , the hands become the antlers. Use google eyes and a pom pom for the nose.

Cut gingerbread men out of sandpaper and decorate with puffy paint.

Quilted ornaments
Take regular styrofoam balls and any scraps of Christmas fabric. Cut fabric into squares about 2 - 3 inches. Use a pen to push the fabric into the ball around all the sides continue until the entire surface is covered and attach a ribbon at the top.

I'm looking at my Christmas tree to see what my kids have made in the past...I have problems with the ones with googly eyes, all of my ornaments that are supposed to have them have lost them, they don't stay on. A couple of the ones that have stood the test of time are:

A piece of red construction paper in the shape of a fairly large star with a white star glued to the top of it decorated with glitter, then the child's school picture glued to the center and the whole thing covered with contact paper.

Construction paper stockings, use a hole punch to put a couple holes in two pieces of stocking shaped paper then "sew" them together with yarn and decorate with glitter, cotton balls, snowflakes, etc.

They could also make Christmas placemates using construction paper, glitter, stickers and other shapes, even handprints, then cover with contact paper.

It goes along with snowman soup and iv seen Snowman Poop Mentioned something that might be a little more age appropriate is Reindeer(sp) dust

In little sandwich bags mix together a little bit of oats and some clitter or iv found you could use a jar but with kids bags work better

you can tape a poem on
Come December 24th, As Santa Flies Here From The North
Here's what you do, it isn't hard-
Just sprinkle this stuff in your year....
That sparkles draw old Santa near
And oats attract his 8 reindeer...
Then just you wait ~ They're on their way
P.S. Happy Holiday!!

OR

Expecting a visit from Santa?
Here is a recipe I have found
It is a special reindeer food
to sprinkle on the ground

The oatmeal is for energy
The sparkles are for flight.
So sprinkle the reindeer food
on Christmas night!

All of Santa's reindeer
will love this healthy snack
and next year Santa and his reindeer
surely will be back!!!

My brothers and sisters have brought this home it is absoulutly Adorable

*Either 2L empty soda bottles or smaller soda bottles.....cover in white socks, use fabric scraps and markers to decorate as a Snowman. This is a super easy craft and the kids love it.

A package of 6 socks = 12 snowman. Ask people to keep the soda bottles from their recycle bins.

*small foam circle or star shape, thumb print with brown paint, add nose with red marker and antlers = reindeer ornament

*cinammon ormaments - applesauce, cinammon, and white glue, make ormaments using cookie cutters, let air dry for at least 24hrs.

*trace cookie cutters and color ornament.
