I just got a used cricut and am having a problem with the cutting. Firstly it was cutting what I selected but then also cutting across when the blade moved back to the end position if that makes sense. So when you would cut, the blade would then need to go back to the right side position when the design finished. When the blade went back to the right, it would slice across the design.

Then I did some fiddling with the blade depth and pressure and now it doesn't seem like it will cut. I lowered the blade more and put the pressure higher and it is not going all the way through. I am using a regular weight cardstock (65 lb). I've tried changing the blade.

Does the blade and housing move up when not cutting and down when cutting? (It doesn't seem to be moving, but not sure if it is supposed to) Any ideas before I go crazy?

Oh - I did go join the Cricut group on Yahoo, but haven't been given access yet.

what number is the blade housing on?? Mine is usually on 4 - that sounded like you had yours at a higher number to start with. (this is the part that the blade is in)

At this point, I have tried it at 4, 5 and 6 with no luck. Should the black "arms" that hold the blade housing move up and down by itself when you go to cut??? (seems like it should - otherwise the blade would be in the down position all the time and you wouldn't be able to slide the mat in) Mine is not moving up or down as far as I can tell.

yes it moves up & down when it cuts
I believe yours will have to be sent to the repair shop (I would try to send this one back)

Have you tried taking the blade housing out and reputting in back in? And taking the blade out and reinserting it. Perhaps it isn't in the proper way. I usually have my blade set at 5, sometimes 6 if I am cutting thick cardstock.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I tried it all. I found info on the Cricut boards also and tried resetting the machine. Nothing worked. There is definitely some kind of problem with the machine. I am returning it to the previous owner.

Sounds like the best thing to do. sorry it didn't work out for you.
