My dad wants to get away from the cold in Connecticut in January. He wants to drive some place where it is warm. I told him that Florida is a very, very long drive. How are the Carolina's? Are they somewhat warm in January. If so, know any good places for rentals for like one month. My mother refuses to go in an airplane so alot of states are out of the question (because of the security).

go west to be warmer. January ash been still really cold in January. AZ, CA, TX have been armer like they should be in January but still cold at night. The places you mentioned have all already had snow this year, now much warmer than CT.

We have our share of mild Januarys but we have already had snow this year and are seeing record lows. This is way early for us so I wouldn't bank on NC being that warm in January.

If you chose CA make sure you go to Southern CA and not Nothern, it is very cold here right now. :) We've been frozen most nights and most days aren't much over 65. It's much warmer in the Southern half of our state but it will still be chilly at night and it will rain on them. Maybe not much but it will.

Hilton Head Island, SC. We are heading there over Feb. break to visit my parents who just moved there.Weather can be cold or warm...but it is definitely warmer than CT. We are in Massachusetts.

Nice thing is that you are only a half hour from Savannah and two hours from charleston. Lots to see and do in the area.

The rentals are very cheap for the month there at that time.

don't count on SC being any warmer then CT this year. Some years we do have a warm spell, but not usually in Jan. Our avg. temps tend to be 40's-50's, this year forget it! A week or so ago the weather report said it was warmer in Anchorage, Alaska then it was in the Carolina's! Georgia isn't any better right now. It might be better to wait and see what the weather does closer to where they might want to drive.

January can even be cold in Florida. Maybe a caribbean cruise?

I live in North Carolina & I agree with the other posters. Although it's warmer here than it is in Connecticut, we get plenty of cold weather this time of year. You can't really count on being able to do anything outdoors until spring. I think a cruise to the Bahamas or the Caribbean sounds more like what you're looking for. Good luck with your travel plans!

I agree, in the Continental U.S. there isn't a place that is really reliably balmy in January. There are "warmer than Minnesota" and even that can be questionable. We've been to Florida and California during January or Feburary when it was colder at our destination than it was back home.

The cruise is a good idea. If they get on a boat out of Florida headed for Cozumel, their chances of warm weather without getting on an airplane are pretty good. (The Carribean can still be cold, I'd head towards Mexico).

Check out Royal Caribbean for cruises out of Bayonne, NJ. You might get some great last minute deals, especially for seniors or Connecticut residents.

thanks for the replies. I will give the info to my dad.
