We have always wanted to stay at FW. We are thinking about renting a pop up to take there. We have NO experience with a pop up but we did have a 5th wheel for several years so we are not totally ignorant on the camping. I was wondering if we get there and need help setting this up, are there anyone to help or are we on our own. My husband is good at doing thing and i know he could do it, but any help or advice will be greatly appereciated. we are looking to go the first week or so in June. after son gets out of school. Thanks all.

I stayed at FW last October and I can tell you that if you need some help almost any one with experience in pop-ups around you will be more than happy to help you out. Campers in general I believe are nicer people for the most part, but especially FW campers.

I agree with kjsstar, we had many offers of help with our pop-up when we had some unforeseen problems, everyone was very friendly.

I do wonder if you are renting one if it will be more current and everything will be automatic for you.

You can also have them demonstrate the set-up/take down of the pop up at the rental place.

Took my hubby a few times at home--but now he has it down to set up our ancient pop up in about 15 minutes and take it down in that amount as well. But being over 20 years old...it is all old school.

We're taking ours for the first time next weekend.

It took me several tries with my pop-up to get the hang of setting it up and taking it down. I would suggest you take a practice camp-out close to home begore going to FW. Rent from the same place you will on the FW trip. Based on my amateur observations it doesn't matter what model in a manufacturer's lineup you take out; most of the them are the same. For example, if you take out a Fleetwood on your practice weekend it would be best if you good get a Fleetwood when going to FW to minimize the learning curve (if you have any input to that - I'm not recommending any manufacturer: we own a Jayco).

Also, I had no practicial towing experience and towing the pop-up down the road several hundred miles is different than zipping across town. Did I mention backing into the campsite? :rotfl2: Sounds like you have some experience with that, though, with your 5th wheel.

A dry run is what I recommend! Enjoy your trip and make surethe pop-up has A/C 'cause June is hot at FW. Also it is guarenteed to rain so when you set up the canopy over the door (if it has one) make sure you drop one corner MUCH lower than the other sothe water won't puddle but instead runs off completely. I tore my canopy this way at FW back in May when I thought I had one corner lower enough that the other (guess not-expensive lesson! :scared1: )

Good Luck - Bama ED
