HELP!!! Why do these things always happen to me???

This happened to me yesterday and I am trying to figure out what happened. I don't have the extra money to cover the mistake so I am really concerned. Disney double charged me for two transactions. I called just as the store was closing. This has really made a trip that was hard to budget for even worse. We will see what they do for me. I will call the bank as soon as it opens.

There is a good chance your bank will refund the bounced check charges (if it is not Washington Mutual). At least ask.

The bank will probably not reimburse you for late charges from the companies you paid with the bounced checks.

I never use a debit card unless there is some specific bonus such as a rebate or airline miles.

Also, debit cards' bonuses vary depending whether you use a signature or use the PIN when buying something with the debit card. A few may even charge you a fee for one way versus the other. If the store won't let you choose the way you want, use a credit card or try not to shop there any more.

In general, not using the PIN is better for you.

You might go to guest relations to bring the charging mess to their attention. Have some perk in mind such as some complimentary PS's (meal and all) or fastpasses.

>>> The bank took back my credit ... airline bankruptcy

This is a gray area. If the airline went bankrupt before you flew any part of the trip, the bank can't take back the credit, assuming you disputed the charge according to the rules on the back of the credit card statement. One may not take money and render nothing in return, and in a credit card transaction the credit card issuer is the one who took your money. Your case is less clear because you got the merchandise and used used part of it (one of the two flight coupons).

I also think oyu may want to be sure to leave enough money in this account to pay for the tickets. It is very possible that when asccounting audits the records for this the double refund will be found and they will then charge you for those tickets. They will not have to contact you to do this because you already authorized then to charge your debit card.

Better safe than sorry - I do not think thay plan to give you those tickets free, that does not sound like the Disney I know. My assumption is they are having problems with there charge system and it will be resolved and you will be charged.

That being said I would be sure to document any expenses this error caused you and request that Disney pay those charges.

BTW - enjoy your new passes - I wish I could justify annuals again!

Just as a warning. I did not use a debit card. I used my Visa when this happened to me. The castmember is calling their corporate office. I hope she can get to the bottom of this soon. Just beware. I wish I would have just withdrawn cash to pay for the AP. I heard this happening but it was always a debit card. Be careful.

You are NOT stealing anything!

I wouldn't spend the money you anticipated the AP's costing in case the cost does come back on your debit card. If it does get charged again, I would contact them immediately. Mistakes do happen, but I am confident this was not one of them. They are good about not giving away the farm, unless it truly is deserved.

Disney does the RIGHT thing! They realized the error and corrected the situation!

Does anyone go to the front desk to complain about an upgrade to the room and insist on paying for it? NOPE. They are glad and happy and thankful.

Jealousy is a dangerous emotion. Ignore it! Have a sunshine day and enjoy your Ap's. :sunny:

I really doubt it was a mistake. I think they credited me back for the passes because of the hell I went through for 5 days! They were going to have to refund a ton of fees anyway, so they saved themselves the trouble of dealing with me over and over.

Just to be on the safe side and not get any ugly surprises down the road, maybe it would be a good idea just to give them a call and tell them what has happened. If they actually have given you your tickets to make up for the mistake, you should ask and have them confirm this...possibly put it in writing, so you would not be charged in the future. If it was another mistake on their part, it can be corrected now. If it turns out that it was a mistake, then you could resolve all the fees and payments that they are going to make for the error they made on your account. It's a large sum of money, time spent resolving this now may prevent hours and hours of torture tying to resolve it later. Best of luck.....and I am sending lots of pixie dust your way hoping that Disney did indeed give you your tickets for free!!!

You know, once my grocery store charged me twice for groceries, which I discovered when I was checking my bank transactions. I never even had to talk to the grocery store. I called my bank, and they immediately removed the charge, contingent on investigation, and promised to investigate the matter for me (with the caveat that if the grocery store claimed that the charge was legit, it would be put back.) The charge was gone and a few days later I got an e-mail from the bank that the store had acknowledged the mistake.

Banks that are interested in making debit cards successful won't let the customer get the shaft. Just wanted to mention that because a lot of people seem to have debit card horror stories and I've been using mine non-stop for about four years and have never had a problem working out mistakes and mischarges.

I just noticed your countdowns....seems were are all starting our Disney vacation together.....hope you both have a great time visiting the mouse for Christmas!!

I was just getting ready to call Disney and make a payment on my ressie with a debit card. I'm so glad I read this before I did! I'll definitely send a check now. Has this been a problem before or is this something relatively new? Do you think maybe CRO has a new processing system or something? It seems like very poor customer service ( and not very Disney) to make this mistake over and over.

I left the money in my checking account just in case they charge me again at some later date. I totally agree it's better to be safe than sorry. I certainly don't want my account to go into the negative again.

If they do charge me again will I be notified? Or could they just do it anytime they want? I guess I wasn't aware that they kept the account # in their system for long periods of time. That seems dangerous. I guess I should leave the money as a cushion for several months???

I would call to make sure it was indeed a "gift" for your troubles. I'm really surprised you haven't as you were quick to call them on their mistake the first time. Funny that if the mistake errs on your side everything is fine and dandy. On our trip last month I got the bill a couple days prior to check out only to find that I was charged twice for eating at Prime Time Cafe. One, I had only eaten there once, and two, it was for $250! Our real tab was only $85. I went to the front desk to straighten it out and got a new bill minus the wrong charge and my real charge. Both were taken off! I again went down to the desk as I knew they had no intention of gifting me a dinner for my troubles! And I was right. The CM told me that they took both off but had already added the correct one back in for my final bill. Sure enough my final bill had the correct charge. If I were you I would call and find out exactly what happened.

Does anyone go to the front desk to complain about an upgrade to the room and insist on paying for it? NOPE. They are glad and happy and thankful.

If you are given an upgrade, they tell you, and it's a gift. If you are not charged for something. amd you were not informed it was a gift, and yet you keep it, it's stealing in my eyes. Im not sure how you justify what makes it not stealing? That they made a mistake and now owe you?

I have made mistakes in my business, and corrected them when either I or they have found them. I don't understand how you can be mad enough at Disney for cheating you (even though they corrected it as soon as they discovered it) that you would come on the boards and announce it..but yet, when it went the other way, and you now had a product you didn't pay for, you don't even call to see if that's what they intended. What might come back to bite you is, that you finally use that money, and they put the charge through, and you bounce all over the place. Gee, will you then call and tell them they need to reimburse the rubber check amounts?

This can't be sugar coated..if you thought Disney intended it as a gift, then don't be shy...call and ask. Maybe they'll tell you that's just what it is.

I believe you are confusing jealousy with morals. Having an upgrade on a room is a lot different than being credited a large amount of money, having the passes, and then bragging about it on the web.

On one of the threads people were stating that having an extra person in a room and not telling the resort is wrong and what are we teaching our children. I guess that goes only for some people and some situations (or does it?).

It amazes me how many people believe that a mistake by a company, such as Disney, must be corrected immediatly, but a mistake in favor of the person is funny and a joke on that same company.

Funny how Disney never bothered calling ME when they double charged me. I didn't even realize it right away but just happened to check my online statement one day for something else and found my checking account in shambles. ALSO, the "ticket investigator" never called back to see if I got my refund or follow up with me after their big mistake. What kind of service is that? I called their offices at least 5-6 times that day, long distance, to try and resolve the problem. The man also told me they would reimburse all fees, which I listed for him, and he said he would "take care of it asap".... so why shouldn't I assume the second credit was for my fees and my trouble? If it wasn't then where is the credit for the fees? If the second credit was a mistake then he would have sent the amount for the fees that day.... but I've only recieved two credits, not three. So when is Disney accountable for these mistakes instead of me???

I am really offended you think I'm stealing! They put the money in my account, and it's still there. It covered the fees just as they promised, plus extra of course, and the money is still there. Many people probably wouldn't even have noticed the extra money until the end of the month statement came. If Disney wants to charge me again that's fine, but then they owe me for the fees, so that's another phone call to straighten that out.

I actually don't find it surprising at all that they would comp the tickets. I know many people who have received free park tickets for things much less damaging... poor maid service, bad check-in experiences, etc. Why is my problem less important? Why should I have to make more long distance phone calls?? Nobody from Disney is calling me or writing me a letter.

I find it interesting that you are now talking about late fees. In your earlier comment, you stated that you rushed to the bank to deposit money to cover the extra cost. So their should have been no fees inccured. I would suggest that if you don't call Disney to tell them of the mistake, you would be wise to deposit the money in a savings account and wait for Disney to discover their mistake. They will, and you will be charged.

My bank charges a $30 fee for every day my account is negative... no matter if checks come in or not. (luckily none did) I didn't notice the error until about 4 days later, hence the "fees". If Disney charges me again, that's fine, but they will have to issue another credit for these fees as they have already promised to do.

Why don't you just call Disney and put this to rest?

im sorry i have had this several times and companies usually wouldnt have credited her that much extra money especially if shes baan calling they shoudl have a record of every call and so should she ( even better if you got an extension and always spoke with the same person) because shes right what about the fees also what about all the long distance calls you have been making they arent following up with and i would document everything youhave been doing so that if you dont call you have a record of all of this
just to be safe your right to leave the money in the account and because its not a credit card i would call the bank find out how long they have to recharge you and then I would call disney ask whats going on with the situation ? I hate to say it but dont tell them that you have been credited anything yet just ask them whats going on if there on top if it then they should be able to tell you you were credited twice and why and if they say thats a mistake say well i have a list here of charges and fees that you owe me for and be prepared to fax it to them ASAP call the bank and get something from them in writing so you can prove this stuff
this situation is unacceptable if the tickets arent free and they dont refund your fees ASAP id write a letter and call customer service and complain at check in to a manager
Good Luck !
i dont think your stealing there are laws with debit cards and banks and stuff like this they cant just have an open window to recharge you:teeth: :teeth: :teeth: :Pinkbounc

Also, I just want to add this definition of the word "steal" because I'm having a hard time finding anything in this definition that applies to my situation. The only thing I'm guilty of is waiting to see if the amount of my second credit is correct or another error. Is waiting equal to stealing? Also, if receiving a second credit is stealing then wasn't Disney stealing when they took the second charge and didn't tell me? Should I report them to the police?
