I have the week planned down to the minute almost, but need help deciding where to go the first night we will be there. I don't have any plans for the day so our options are open (as long as the ressie is available). I am thinking of choosing between WC, Kona and H&V. My kids are both 5 years old, my husband is more of a meat and potatoes kind of guy and I LOVE everything.

TIA,
Mel

I'm like you, planning like crazy and fitting our ADRs in so they make the most sense with we will be that day.

Since it is your first day and with young children, I am assuming you will be in MK for the daytime hours and this would be dinner? If that is the case I would reccomend:

1. Kona - because of the easy access from MK and the great food.

2. Whispering Canyon - a little harder to get to from MK (you need to take a boat), but still doable (is that a word? LOL), and I would rank it 2nd in food quality as well. However, if you have lively, outgoing kiddies, they may enjoy the antics more at WCC. Kona is a little more laid-back.

3. Hollywood and Vine - unless DHS is going to be your first park you visit on your first day, I wouldn't suggest it. I have never eaten here, but from what I gather, it is not that highly rated food wise. And remember, H&V only has the Playhouse Disney characters for breakfast and lunch, so if you want to see them for dinner, you won't. You may be better off booking this for a breakfast on an am when you are planning to visit DHS to see the characters?

Now, this is all assuming you will be at MK on your first day.

Just my suggestions, I hope you are happy with whatever you decide. It's so much fun planning, isn't it?!

Having eaten at all 3, I say since your thinking of Kona, why not OHANA'S? Great atmosphere for the whole family. HUGE portions, lots to do for the kids as well and the food is REALLY good. Kona is okay, but I think their breakfast is best. Hollywood & Vine is like your average buffet you can get anywhere..no magic and nothing spectacular. Hands DOWN, Ohana! :thumbsup2

I love O'hana it is my favorite so far on Disney property. I would try that but if nothing is available (ADR) I would choose Whispering Canyon. I haven't ate at Kona so I can't speak on that but I have ate at Hollywood and Vine and I would rank that below Kona.

Whispering Canyon had good food - not great food but good food. The atmosphere is what made it really fun for us. I was willing to pay the disney prices for the entertainment there where at O'hana I am willing to the pay the prices for the food (entertainment is good there too).

I'd vote for Whispering Canyon, but I've never been to the other places... but still -

We LOVED Whispering Canyon our first night there... after barely getting out of Chicago because of a snow storm, our flight being delayed, my nerves being wrecked, etc. etc. - Whispering Canyon was just what we needed...

a little hokey pokey
a little ketchup
a little ride around the place on wooden horses
a Northwestern sunset (drink for me!)
a huge milkshake (for the kids)

I don't know - it was just what we needed after a travel day...

Have never done Kona, but I would pick it anyway. Hollywood & Vine and Whispering Canyon Cafe are two Disney restaurants that you could not pay us to ever eat at again. Horrible food at both and even worse service and filthy conditions.

We don't like H&V or Whispering Canyon. We LOVE Kona though! I 2nd Ohana's as well!

they even got stodgy old DH going and the food was really good. We also like Kona though I would not ever go to Ohana again so would not consider it for a substitute. H & V is inedible, noisy, dirty (can you tell we don't like it there?). Don't even consider it!!!!

Thanks for the great feedback. I think H&V is out, but now I have to decide between Kona, O'hana and WCC.

Our family loved the WC, 3 adults and a 3 and 6 year old at the time....fun, good food, great, relaxed and friendly atmosphere....did it our first night....great way to start!

Definitely Kona Cafe! Some of the best food on property. The desserts here are the best!

Whispering Canyon is a lot of fun and the food is good. I recommend trying this too at some point, though I wouldn't pick it over Kona.
