I lost (misplaced) $1600 in jewlery in the last week. That is 2 out of 5 peices of expensive jewlery that DH has bought in 6 years! I can't find them anywhere! First it was just a ring - and now today it was a bracelet!

How do I tell DH?

Punch yourself in the eye and say you were mugged. LOL Seriously, I would give yourself a few days to find it before telling him. They might show up. I have thought I lost my wedding ring quite a few times but it always shows up in a few days.

:( The last time I tried that (DS 2 had gotten into jewlery so I knew it was in the house SOMEWHERE!) Dh found it - in - of all places - the crumbs in the bottom of a pringles can when he dumped the rest of the can into his mouth!
But this time its all me - DS couldn't get into the jewels and the ring has been MIA for a week now!

I just asked my DH (knowing what would be his reply) and he said he would want me to tell him and then he would help me look for it. I don't have kids, so if I lost jewelry, it would be all my fault. As he said, it is only jewelry after all and thank goodness it is nothing you can't replace :)

ooh HelenaBear - you have a very understanding husband!

my DH gets mad when I can't find my license (he doesnt understand that you don't always want to carry a purse so you throw youe ID in your pocket,....blah blah blah.

OMG- I just found the bracelet!
In a very odd place - the corner next to my computer! I pulled out a paper that fell and there it was!

:D
One down one to go!
Thank You (It will be much easier to tell him one is missing! I must have been drawn away from my search to the dis for a reason;)

I've found that 2 sets of eyes is better then one...tell him the truth now and ask him for help looking you might get lucky:D :D :D

You should never be scared to tell your husband anything. He's your husband, not your father. Tell him right now you can't find your ring, maybe it was stolen and you should call the police and report it missing. Maybe you could call your insurance company. There is absolutely no reason to fear what your husband has to say, he is your equal, he is not above you.

I have to agree with aahmom. Don't be afraid of your husband.

Tell him you have missplaced the ring and ask him to help you search. If you don't find it put in a claim with your insurance company.

Have you retraced your steps the day the ring went missing? That always helps me find lost items.

My husband lost some of jewelry a few months ago. It wasn't really lost he had just put it all in a place where he wouldn't forget where it was so we could take it to the appraiser. We found it finally with both of us searching.

 Hes not home right now - hes working.
I know I SHOULD tell him - and I should not fear him - I don't - I fear him no longer buying me jewllery beacuae of my irresposibility!

Hope you get lucky on finding your ring Patti. Have you been doing any work wrapping stuff up? It could of slipped off, especially if your fingers got cold and be hiding amongst something. Just a thought, try your rubbish bin before it gets collected - you never know!

Good luck and as the others say don't be frightened to tell your DH.

:D Thanks Belle -= I didn't think of the fact that my rings get looser in this FRIGID cold! I will soon get off the DIS and continue my search for the ring! :)

Mysterious disappearance of jewelry is only covered on homeowners policy if you scheduled it in the first place.

If you didn't schedule it... don't call your agent to file a claim. One too many claims (paid or not) will get you cancelled.

(I work at an agency.)

Good luck finding it. I lost mine 2 yrs ago....3 rings joined together.

I admit I don't wear much jewelry so my DH doesn't buy for me so I guess I would never have the fear of him not buying it for me ;) I do agree, don't be afraid and to just tell him. Who knows your ring might show up in an odd place as well. Glad to know your bracelet was found though :)

You tell him the truth. What's the alternative??

SplshMnt-
I never even thought about insurance!
How do I go about schedualling it - and
We own 3 multi-families -
can we include it in our current owner occupied multi-family?

To schedule jewelry on your HOMEOWNERS POLICY, contact your agent. (I hope you aren't considering adding the piece you aleady lost. tsk tsk. That would be a no-no. LOL)

You will need to provide proof of ownership (receipt....showing description, date of purchase, & value). Sometimes it can be added without receipt -- but you still need that info. Pieces over $3000 require an appraisal done within the last 3 yrs.

Of course, all of the above is from the carriers we offer. Ask yours. It's about $12.50 per $1000 to schedule jewelry.

Also, if somethings not scheduled, mysterious disappearance isn't covered. AND theft is only covered up to $1000 TOTAL if pieces aren't scheduled.

I would NEVER do that.
But for future purposes it would be good.
I never think of homeowners insurance for anything except the actaul structure.

I know I have to tell him the truth - I was looking for a way to break it easy to him - anyone with similar experiences.

LOL -- I know. :D But you WOULD be surprised at some people.

What about time some of your searching to be when he comes home, so he sees you looking and when he asks what for, you tell him? ;)
