We are scehduled to leave on Friday morning. Thsi has not been the best week for me or the family. First I got some less-than-good-news resulting from my last doctor's visit. Then I got a speeding ticket yesterday (doing 30 in a 20 mph zone -guilty as charged). Then last night DS (who is scheduled to celebrate 5th birthday on upcoming trip) got up 4 times sick on his stomach. We have yet to get any liquids in him; he keeps throwing up. Good news is he has no fever. Does anyone know of any madicine or remdy that works particularly well for little ones with upset tummys?

I guess I just needed to vent a bit as I sit here and comfort DS as we watch House of Mouse.

Oh, Im so sorry for you. Ginger Ale or 7-UP is good for upset bellys. I would be good if you could get some of the rub on phenegren. Good luck.

So sorry it has been a difficult week. The good news is stomach bugs rarely last more than a day or two, hopefully later this afternoon he'll start to perk up a bit. As for getting liquids into him, I have the best luck making an 8 oz serving of weak gatorade in a measuring cup, and then giving it to my DD 1 oz at a time, every 15 minutes, starting 1 hour after she was sick the last time. That way I know she isn't taking on too much at once, which will often make them sick again. If she gets throught the first hour and keeps all 4 oz down, then I'll give 2 oz every 15 minutes. After 2 hours of keeping everything down I'll offer her something from the BRAT diet (Bananas, rice, applesauce, dry toast) but again in very small portions. I've been lucky that she has never gotten seriously dehydrated by following this, and I don't recall her ever being sick to her stomach for more than a day.

Saying a prayer for you and your family - hope all goes well for you and your there enjoying yourself soon!! We leave Friday for our trip and I've had the same anxiety (and been praying alot too) as we've had a sick granddaughter (5) - just found out now that she has MONO... but she can go - just no rollercoasters or rough rides...

Maybe we'll see you there :) good luck

Thanks for al the kind words... I appreciate the sense of community on these boards. Update: The school just called and DD7 was... you guessed it... throwing up at school. <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008_ZSzeb028' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_6_100.gif' border=0></a> <a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008_ZSzeb028' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/36/36_1_25.gif' border=0></a>

Now we are hoping for a fast-moving virus. I will remember the BRAT diet.

before the BRAT diet, try jello, but don't wait 'til it gets "jiggly" but rather have the child sip it "thick" (is this making sense?)... if it does gel then just microwave it for a few seconds so it's drinkable... it coats the stomach wonderfully...

if you go the gingerale route, stir the bubbles out and it's best at room temp...

another idea is rice krispies, eaten (literally) one at a time...

wishing pixie dust and sending prayers for a quick recovery (and not other victims!)

I realize your children are probably feeling better by now (I hope), but just wanted to give my 2 cents! When my kids have been throwing up, I usually give them sips of the juice from canned peaches (in regular syrup - not lite)- I know it sounds weird, but it really works!! I start off by giving them 1 teaspoon every 10 minutes and if it is tolerated for an hour, then I increase it to several teaspoons, then foods from the BRAT diet if the vomiting has subsided. Hope everyone is feeling better and you were able to get off to your vacation without any problems!!

The "not quite set" jello has worked for us. Also, try freezing the ginger ale or gatorade or liquid of choice into freeze pops (or popsicles, whatever you call them). My kids were always more likely to eat a popsicle than drink something. I think with the liquids they would always try to drink too quickly and it would come back up...with it frozen it goes down just a little at a time, and it's more fun. ;)

Good luck!
