Our park day is MK - hop to HS. Our last FP is 1:30 - 2:30 for Splash. We can't refresh for more b/c we have more FPs at HS (through the CL FP program).

Sci Fi Dinner at 5:20 and I want to check in at 5:00

First question - what time do we need to leave MK in order to get through security and turnstiles to make it to Sci Fi by 5:00?

say we finish Splash at 2:00, here is what I'm thinking to kill time. I do NOT want to go back to the hotel just to turn around and have to get to HS at 5:00. But, we will be at Dolphin and can walk. so maybe it is an option.

Options:
FoF parade (seen it many times)/Tom Sawyer's Island - never been
Tiki Room and/or Country Bears - never done this
Monsters Inc/Carousel of Progress/People Mover - never done CoP
Monorail to EP/walk to Skyliner - Skyliner to HS
Or.....go to hotel then back out to HS

Other ideas I'm not thinking of?

I would give 90 minutes to go and this should give you plenty of time and you could do what every you want in the in between time maybe if you see a short ride go do it

If there's nothing you WANT to do, and you are just looking to kill time.

I stay at Swolphin, I get hoppers. Here's what I would do:

Splash
Pineapple float at AI
Bus to Swolphin
Use the grotto waterfall as a shoulder massager. Then sit in the hot tub
Shower and catch a boat to Hollyweird.

Tom Sawyer's Island - never been
Tiki Room and/or Country Bears - never done this
Monsters Inc/Carousel of Progress/People Mover - never done CoP

If you have youngish kids, I'd spend some time at Tom Sawyer's island.
Otherwise, I'd do all of the things you've never done before. You have the time and nothing else you're itching to get to, so why not slow down and enjoy some of the classics?!

Definitely second the Tom Sawyer's Island idea. We skipped it on our first MK trip and then did it when we were at Disneyland earlier this year. The kids are still talking about it.

What is on Tom's Sawyer's Island? Is it wheelchair friendly?

My dad wants to do this next trip in September, but he will likely be in a wheelchair. We have been to WDW several times over the years and have never visited this area.

Actually I like all these ideas (particularly the Dole float). But I’d stay in MK and knock out as many of those as you can—I don’t think you’ll regret any of those things you’ve never done. I’d also add the pirate adventure if you’ve never done that.

Have your kids done the sorcerors of the MK or the pirates map experience. Those can kill some time, while the parents enjoy a sweet treat.

Yes you can refresh for more. The CL FPs don’t block you from adding on regular FP#4 and so on in MK. You don’t have to worry about booking additional for MK because they won’t overlap your DHS FPs.

You’ll only have “downtime” if you don’t find any FPs that you like.

We have a regular FP booked in HS for Aliens followed by a CL for SDD. The Aliens FP was due to a glitch so it’s just for the kids and we feel comfortable for them to ride alone. So because of that, we can’t make any more in MK Bc we already have on in HS.

Tom Sawyer's island is the most perfect childhood playground. My 6 and 8 year old would have stayed there all day. Large wood fortress, hidden tunnels, secret passageways, rope bridges, rocking chairs.

Also, we were so pleasantly surprised with Country Bear Jamboree. It was charming and nostalgic and a wonderful break. Carousel of Progress was a delight too.

Okay; just wanted to clarify because of the way it was worded...especially for others thinking that CLFPs may block additional regular FPs.

If some in the group are able to book FP#4 and more in MK, you can always book rides and let the kids use the FPs than to do “time killers” they may not think are fun.

Do CoP! :) Everyone who goes to WDW should do CoP and Peoplemover for the historic value. It’s one of the few things at WDW that Walt himself directly and physically worked on, as it’s originally from the 1964 New York World’s Fair. It’s had a few changes since then. The other major thing Walt personally worked on can be seen on the Peoplemover. Part of the original model for Epcot when it was meant to be a city is on display.

It is great to have those options in mind. Your family can then decide what you feel like doing at that time. What worked for my family was having the mornings planned pretty tight with our must-do attractions, having at least something planned in the evening, and having different options in mind for the afternoon, but playing the afternoons by “ears.”

I've been watching youtube videos about Tom Sawyer's Island and I'd love to be able to do that! We will see where the day takes us.......thanks everyone!

Why not just go ahead and hop to HS? If you need a rest, grab a drink and see Beauty and the Beast, Frozen sing along, The Little Mermaid, or Indiana Jones. You'll already be at HS so no stress about making/not making your dinner reservation and you might get lucky and find not too long of a standby wait for Star Tours or Toy Story Mania if you're worried about FP issues! (Also from previous experience you won't need to check in that early for Sci-fi! I've never been seated before my reservation time)

There are a zillion things to do in MK. What is this down time you speak of?

I'd catch any of the shows. My 9-year-old enjoyed all of them.

I also like the idea of monorail to Epcot and Skyliner to HS. You could take the ferry to TTC to grab the monorail. That would be a lovely smorgasbord of Disney transportation.
