Well like the thread title said...were cruising and having our neice come along and need to know what we need to make everything smooth sailing :teeth: . In all our party will have...myself, DH, DD7, DD12 along with both of my parents and our neice. My parents are actually the ones bringing her...but the question came up today as to what they will need to do...you know paperwork wise. To make things somewhat more complicated my neice's parents are not married...but my brother (her dad) does have full custody....but...he is not listed at all on her birth certificate...do you think that will be a problem? So any help or suggestions would be helpful. :flower:

I am taking my 16 year old brother on a Disney Cruise in June. There is a form in the documents that my mom had to fill out and get notarized. I also have my mom write a note stating I have permission to get him treated if he becomes ill or has an accident, etc etc while we are traveling.

You would need a letter outlining the reason for taking the child out of the country. In this case a cruise vacation. You should include the dates you are traveling (departure and return dates), that the parents give you explicit permission to do so, permission to obtain medical services if necessary, the ports you will be traveling to, what cruise line the trip will be on, and the names of the people responsible for the child during that time. The letter should then be signed by both parents and notarized by a notary public.

What they need to see is that your have permission to take the child out of the country from all adults responsible for the child.

In your case you have an odd twist in that the person with sole custody is not listed on the birth certificate. You will certainly need a notarized document from her dad, but they may question why he is not on the birth certificate.

Copies of any legal documents that grant him full custoday may be a good idea so that you can establish that he is indeed the sole responsible adult for your neice. Copies may be OK, but if you can get official copies from the court, so much the better.

You may want to contact DCL (or have your travel agent contact them) because the situation is a bit unusual

I have done this several times...thus the FAVORITE AUNTIE name! Don't worry. We had our own little letter notorized. I can e-mail it to you if you want. It covers taking the child out of the country and the medical stuff too. NO ONE looked at it! Immigration glanced to make sure we had the birth certificate, they didn't care whose name was on it.
