Ok, we took a vacation to Disney last January and we stayed at WL. We're planning now to go back this Jan/Feb. but are undecided about where to stay; we loved WL but want to try somewhere different. We've narrowed it down to Old Key West, AKL, POR FQ, & possibly Coronado. Are problem is will we be disappointed going from a deluxe to a moderate if we choose say POR FQ? HELP.
thanks in advance.

We used to stay at the Contemporary and the Poly all of the time and then moved to the Coronado and subsequently stayed at the Coronado nine of the last ten visits (we went back to the Poly for a special occasion). We had no problem with our move to the Coronado and, in fact, it is considered our home away from home.

We were scheduled to stay at the Coronado last month again for six nights until we were generously offered great deals at Old Key West and the Animal Kingdom Lodge/Kidani.

We loved both the AKL and Old Key West (I'll be back at OKW again in January for five nights on an all-girls trip).

I would not hesitate to recommend the AKL, OKW or the Coronado.

Many people here prefer Coronado and POFQ over the deluxes. Coronado is considered by some as a Mod/Del hybrid, really. It's probably the most "upscale" feeling mod.

Many people also love POFQ because it's a smaller resort. Which means quieter, more relaxed, etc...

I wouldn't write off a mod just because it wasn't called a deluxe. Many people love the mods (or values) moreso than the deluxes.

I forgot to say that we will be staying in the room quite a bit because we've got a 1 year old and 4 year old who wll nap in afternoons.

It's what you get used to...at the WL, you had the boat ride to the MK, you had enclosed hallways and all under one roof.....personally...mind everyone, personally...the mods don't do it for us...especially the outside halls....we were just there with our 20 month old granddaughter and the enclosed buildings and halls were the best....

Onto OKW...trip before last we had the occasion to try OKW at a super rate...2 bedroom villa and never stayed there before....over 10 stays at WL plus most of the other deluxes...bottom line was we didn't care for OKW at all, again especially with our then 9 month old granddaughter.....we had 3rd floor and there's no elevators, so it's up and down with the stroller and child on the stairs....also the buildings could be a long walk or inner bus trip to the food and pool area.....not good by our standards....so used to everything compact at WL....

Do as you may but we've found after over 40 trips to WDW, if we're going to spend most of our time in EPCOT, we'll stay at the EPCOT resorts...and if we're spending most of our time at the MK (which we have with our granddaughter and family) we opt for the MK resorts and WL wins hands down...doesn't matter how many times we've been there, it's the best for price, location and ambiance.....we have no ambition to try all the WDW resorts....

We have stayed at AKL/CSR and FQ on past trips. I really didn't find the rooms are AKL any larger than the ones we stayed in at CSR and FQ. We DID miss not having a balcony though.
CSR is a lovely resort with a modern theme and FQ seemed to have a more romantic feel to us. It also has just been redone which was one reason we had not returned there.
We really didn't care for AKL. It was just not our theme.
Hoping that we will be more "wowed" by our stay at WL in December.

We normally stay deluxe but DH and I stayed at CSR in May and we really liked it. It depends on what you really like about the deluxe resorts but I'm willing to bet that you would be quite pleased with the moderates.

We have also stayed at a few deluxe resorts, Poly, Bay Lake Towers and Contemporary but my TRUE home away from home is CSR...
We love this resort...

Once we had stayed in a Deluxe we were spoiled and wont go back to a mod EVER! It's just a personal choice.

We have no problem going back & forth between Deluxe & moderates. POR in the mansion section is our fav moderate. We got a new;y refirbed room in
August, and the new rooms are very nice, pretty upscale.

The only thing you may miss is having a balcony at the moderates, and seeing as you'll be staying in your room a lot, you may like the extra space of a balcony to hang out on when the kids are napping. So I may try AKL. It's a beautiful resort, and has lots of childrens activities, like WL. Also there's the animals, prob. a big draw for the kids. The rooms are the same layout as WL

CSR is not a bad resort, but I would recommend AKL as the most unique resort experience on your list. Also, if you investigate prices, you may find that the difference between CSR and AKL is not that significant, if you aren't going for a savannah room. I have never stayed at OKW; it is on my list to try.

AKL is my favorite. The lodge has more activities than other resorts. Better restaurants. If you check room sizes AKL is larger than the mods. The cs is excellent as well. Best of all you have a balcony! Personally I would get a savannah view. My 5 yea r old dgd loved the animals and told me AKL is her favorite hotel at WdW. Going back there in 2 weeks!

Well, the answer is after much debating we are headed to AKL in January! We can't hardly wait!
