Help - need suggestions for showing son's teacher appreciation

My 3rd grader has an IEP. He is in a regular classroom with 28 other students. I feel very fortunate that he has a wonderful teacher this year. I really feel that she is that "once in a lifetime" teacher for him. She goes above and beyond what she needs to do for him. She does this cheerfully - every day, sometimes several times per day. I want to show my appreciation & "thank you" just doesn't seem adequate. Any suggestions?

I am sure there will be many good ideas offered, but I want to encourage you to sit down and think about why she is such a good teacher, and then write a thank-you to her stating why you are so grateful. Don't overlook the power of personal, written thanks. I have actually gotten thank-you notes back from teachers that I thanked, and they were just so appreciative that someone took the time to write.

A handwritten note is a great idea. Why don't you also put a gift certificate for dinner at a nice restaiurant in your area inside and she'll really be appreciative!

I agree with the other posts as well. If your son feels the saame way you do, you may want to have him right her too. A friend of mine and I did something similiar for one of our teachers several years ago and she still talks about it.

A personal note is greatly appreciated. I have some saved from the past 25 years myself. A restaurant gift certificate is nice. Another nice idea is to purchase a book in her honor for the school library. Our elementary school libraries allow you to purchase books in honor or in memory of someone. Their name is posted in the front of the book and the book is placed in the library. I bought some for my kids' birthdays when they were in elementary. They felt very special knowing a book with their name was in their library.
