Help! Need packing help--flying out today!

I haven't flown since we went to Disney in Jan. of '06. (DH flies weekly.) He is telling me that not only do we have to check our "sundries" bags (make-up/shampoo/deodorant) but that those bags count towards our one bag per person limit. Does that mean that for our family of 8 we are only allowed 8 bags total to be checked? Please tell me he is wrong. I have packed about one suitcase (some are small) per person plus two bags with the family shampoos, etc.

Unless something is different since I last flew (or your airlines has different policies), each person is allowed to check 2 bags. The total weight of each bag cannot exceed 50 lbs.

Check your airline's website just to be sure!

Is he confusing the 1 quart size baggie each person is allowed to carry on for personal things? That is limited to 1 per person.

Different airlines have different bag limits - which airline are you taking?

As far as toiletries, they can be packed in carry-on luggage as long as they follow the "3-1-1" rule... (from United's website): Items must fit in one clear, re-sealable quart or liter-sized plastic bag, in containers of 3.4oz/100ml or less.

I believe each passenger who has a carry-on is allowed one of these quart-sized bags. For example, if you're a family of four, you cannot carry four ziplocks for everyone in your own carry-on. Each person carries their own ziplock bag in their own carry-on or personal item (purse etc.)

If you have larger bottles than the 3 ounce size, they must be in the checked luggage.

Depending on your airline, you are usually allowed 2 checked pieces up to 50lbs each (but check your airlines website)

Fluids/liquids/gels can be packed in checked luggage.

For carry on luggage: one clear quart zip type bag per traveller, to contain any liquid/gel/creams and all items must be 3oz or less
