OK we are redoing our bedroom. DH wants green, I don't really like green too much! I am a bit boring and like white walls. We are putting in a wood floor that is oak. It is a red oak and is very light.

So here is what I am thinking: Yellow walls (very light like butter) or a very light green - blue color. Has anyone done either of those kinds of color and did you get tired of it quickly? I am worried I will go to all the trouble to paint and then not like it! Then what did you put with them for your bedding? Thanks for the ideas!

I actually have both colors that you describe in my house. My entire downstairs is a butter yellow with cream trim and I love it. It was in the house when we moved in with a deep clay accent color. We hated the clay so we color matched it to the butter yellow everywhere except for in the kitchen. In the kitchen we put a light blue. My upstairs guest bedroom is a bluish greenish color. I had a comforter set that was sage and white gingham check so I brought it to Home Depot and they color matched it and to our surprise the color that came out on the walls was more of a bluish color than a green, but it matches perfectly and works. We have been in the house 8 months and I don't regret the colors at all.

Our bedroom is a pale butter yellow and I love it. It is cheery in the morning! I have had it this color for 2 1/2 years and have not grown tired of it yet. I love color in the house but like a quiet color for my bedroom.

HTH

I think light pastels are very pretty in bedrooms - I have a light soft peach and love it, but I would have done a soft yellow if DH had let me! (He doesn't like yellow. 12 years ago I let that influence me. Today I'd pick the yellow and he'd learn to live with it!)

Thank you all! I feel better knowing you have yellow and like it! I am looking at Penny's online and they have several pretty comforters that would look nice I think. I like this one that is made of marelasse' . It is 100% cotton and washable (for my house that is a good thing!). They have a color called misty jade that might look pretty with yellow walls and then maybe green/yellow throw pillows to tie it together. Thanks for the link too!

Our family room and kitchen are painted a very pretty butter yellow and I LOVE it. We've had it for about three years now, I am not tired of it at all.

Ok, is this the color of the floor?

The two colors you are talkinga bout will look very different against the floor. I personally would choose a blue/green, but look at these:

WOW thank you both for the pictures! You guys are GOOD!

Southern for Sure, your house is beautiful! Would you like to come up to STL to help with mine?! It's a small house and won't take you long! I'll take ya to the hill for real Italian food!

Agotta, that is very close to my floor and your right there is a difference. I think I like the light yellow better but DH likes a very pretty blue green. It is called Adriatic Mist (also Behr paint). Now that I have gotten over wanting white again (I keep telling him there ARE different shades of white :rotfl: ) I am getting excited to try color.

Today I am taking the paint samples (yes I have almost every paint chip that Home Depot makes) and looking for a comforter. I am thinking if I see one that I really like then I'll choose the paint that goes best with it.

Really thak-you both for your help. I am stepping out of my comfort zone and it helps to hear what others have done. :)

Maybe you could paint just the wall that the headboard will be against in the green color and then do the other walls in a buttery color. I think that would look nice, especially if you could find complementary bedding (and it would keep both DH and you happy).

I'd suggest buying some of the paint samples that some of the brands have out now and put them on your walls. We did that and are very glad now that we did. Some of the colors we thought we would like didn't look so good once we put them up next to our wood work. Also, depending upon the lighting you have in your home (natural and lamp) the paint shade can look different. It's worth spending the little extra you do to make sure you have something you can live with. Plus, the spots on the wall are great conversation starters! :rotfl2:

S4S, I love the color. I think it's fabulous...and you did a great job.

I need to paint my bedroom. I put this wall border up in here to hide an old border someone half painted over. I'm just now thinking that was a mistake. Ugh.

Thank-you everyone. I spent the weekend painting our room ..........drum roll please............Balmy Seas green. :thumbsup2 It looks so pretty with the white wood work and the red oak floor. I bought the comforter at Penny's. It is a Chris Madden quilt in a dark brown (Hazel) color. I then found dark brown silk draperies at Target. Oh, my it is pretty! So different from anything I have ever done before and so sophisticated. Anyone who knows me IRL would say that is a stretch! Well, they wouldn't use trendy to discribe me that's for sure! :lmao: Most anyone would look at me and say "Oh there goes a Mom/ Teacher" even if I have Non-Mom jeans! ;)

First, go toPenneys or some place that sells bedding, and pick out your new bedspread/comforter and then pick out a paint that compliments that.
Go to Home Depot and grab several samples taht you like. TAKE THEM HOME BEFORE YOU DECIDE. The lighting in your bedroom will be much different than what the store will have.
When you find a color that you think you like, tape it to the wall and step back to look at it.
Always tint the primer the same color as your finish coat for a much more even finish. If the paint person at Home Depot tells you not to bother with the primer tinting, ask another clerk to do it for you. ( I paint murals for a living, and tinting the primer is the way to go-you will be much happier with the results and it will cost you nothing extra)

Happy painting!

I detest the color yellow. I hate it. I would go for blue or a light cherry/pink color.
