We've been set on the Grand California for months now, but suddenly I'm contemplating the Disneyland Hotel. I'm drawn to the idea that it's more Disney. Is it "tons" more Disney? Which would my three boys like better (ages 7-13)? Is it a lot further to walk to at the end of a long day? Any thoughts appreciated!!!

HI
We just finished our trip 2/12-2/15 and stayed at the Disneyland Hotel. It has some very subtle Disney items throughout the rooms (wallpaper border with stars and at the end Tinkerbell, wallpaper in bathroom had trees that were cut into Mickey, Minnie, Goofy etc., bedding, artwork). However it is in need of some major updating/remodeling as it is really showing its age (this didn't matter to us, as we only slept there). The location is great, pool is great etc. The Californian is gorgeous and also a great location, but to us the saving in money was well worth the stay at the Disneyland Hotel.

We did DLH in October... I thought the rooms were fine... cute disney theme (dd liked the tinkerbell wallpaper), ours didn't seem run down--but it was more of a typical hotel room--and we usually stay at some pretty high end resorts. The pool has really fun theming... and we had a pool view, so it was fun to look out at that.

We're doing GCH in May... for me it is all about the walk. After 4 days in Oct, if I had to walk through DTD one more time I was gonna scream... I just wanted to be at the park already. Partly my fault--no stroller, and carrying 30 lbs for that 7-8 minute walk every morning, then back for nap, then back to the park again after nap, then back to go to bed... geesh... added up. Figure I'll save a little time skipping DTD and having the separate gate to DCA is pretty cool.

I love the Grand! We stay there every time we go. However, the coolest swimming pool is at the Disneyland Hotel, hands down. I read a survey on kids ages 5 to 11 that said when asked what their favorite thing about Disneyland was 90% replied "the hotel pool!"

If your family is gung ho park, I say stay at the Grand. You cant beat the proximity. Having your hotel so close makes the trip so much more fun and relaxing. That goes a long way when you considering your going to be on you feet for at least 3 days straight!

If you do stay at the Grand don't let them give you a room near the lobby or elevators! Last time we went they had a piano player playing at EXTREMELY high volume, it made nap time kind of tough and with that kind of price tag you DON'T want to make compromises.
