Hi all! I need a little advice....we are moving our trip from May to September. I am trying to decide between the first week which would include Labor Day weekend or the last week of September. I'm trying to minimize the days my kids will miss school so it has to be one of those weeks. I would love to see all of the Halloween decorations and thinking about MNSSHP. The kids are 17, 14, 10. Are they too old to enjoy MNSSHP? Any advice appreciated!!!

We've never been at the beginning of September, but we've gone twice at the very end of the month into October and that is one of our favorite times of the year to go. We thought the weather was great (nice for swimming as it was hot, but not too humid for walking around the parks) and the crowds were practically non existent. I would definitely go to MNSSHP.......nobody, IMO, is ever too old to attend any of the parties :goodvibes. We have been to 3 Halloween parties and 2 Christmas parties and have always had a great time, even with older teens. I would definitely go to the party as I think your kids would love it. Good luck and happy planning :wizard:.

I would think first week would be kinda busy. The last week of Sept a friend of mine went and said it was great!

I think we are going to go right dab in the middle of September IF we get the Jewish holidays off that we think we will.

Anyway, last year I left the Saturday of Labor Day weekend so technically I was there the week before you are thinking of going, but everyone told me it would be dead. It wasn't. It wasn't that crowded or anything but not as dead as I thought! As we got closer to Labor Day, though, the crowds started.

Personally on a crowd level (and weather level) I'd pick the last week if you can!

Thanks for the advice. I am leaning toward the last week of September but have to talk to my hubby. I do worry about my oldest who will be a senior and thought maybe the first week would be better as they would only be 2weeks into school but I think he can work hard and be fine.

We've been twice during the week of Labor Day and the rides are walk on! The actual day of Labor Day was a little busier but still not crowded at all. We are planning our trip for the same week again to minimize the days our kids miss school too.

We went the last week in September this year it was much more crowded than I thought it would be. That being said, we usually go inJuly and September was nothing compared to that time of year. But with MNSSHP and food and wine plus a marathon happening all at the same time, we are moving our top up this year by two weeks. It means taking the kids out of school for two days, but that won't be so bad. I really like September. I don't think anyone is ever too old for MNSSHP. So many older people dress up. It's not just for little kids. Good luck whatever you choose.

Thank you! I ended up booking the last week of September because we want the kids to experience the MNSSHP...especially me!!! lol Now time to start all over in planning!!! Oh well, I do love it!!

I was just about to tell you not to do the last week. It was crazy busy last year with sold out parties.

I was saying all year that it would be busy because that's the latest the free dining could be booked for some time. Lots of folks want to take that free dining offer, but choose to go as late as possible in the promotion, hoping to catch a change in the weather.

Additionally, I think most are reluctant to take kids out of school right after it starts, so try to wait until they get a little settled. Earlier September are some of the lightest crowds of the entire year, but if you want MNSSHP, you need to take that into account. In prior years it started in early Sept but they changed to mid-Sept in 2010 I think. Who knows what they'll do this year though since so many of last year's parties sold out.

If you could back it up a week, you should still catch MNSSHP but miss that last week surge in crowds. If you decide to stay with that week, just don't expect low crowds. Use rope drop and fastpass, and follow "best park" recommendations and you'll be fine. DO NOT do MNSSHP on a Friday.

Well, I DID have the last week booked but my hubby called from work and needed me to change it so now we are booked at POR Sept 1 thru Sept 7!!! No MNSSHP but maybe next time. I am NOT changing again!! lol Now time to start planning.....
