Hi all, we just found out dd(5) will be needing surgery which will put her in a full body cast for up to 8 weeks and several weeks after that of intensive physical therapy. :( The problem is that we have a trip booked for the last week of January! I'm just wondering what the crowds are like during late Februay or in March since we may be moving our trip until then. Its not looking like we will be able to go when planned, and may even try to go before?? Thanks!!!

As long as you go before easter breaks and spring break you are fine. In mid to late march the crowds get heavy.

However the parks stay open later with heavy crowds.

If I were you I wouldnt worry about the trip and delaying it. Disney is probably the best park on earth in dealing with handicap people. My dad who is handicap went in July (over the 4th) and I was AMAZED at how easy it was.

Well, without knowing your daughter's current limitations Im not sure what would be best for you, but I have always wanted to go in early December, it is suppose to be low crowds and I would love to see the christmas decorations.

Late march is busy, ive done it twice, but still had a great time! My first two times (as a child) this was when we went because of school break.

We went late february one year and it wasnt too bad either. Really, as long as I am in WDW I am happy!

My thoughts are with your daughter! Happy planning.

The last week in Feb or first week in March are both usually pretty good. Any earlier in February and you run into President's Day week, which is top level crowds. Any later in March and you run into the spring break crowds which will build every week through late April.

Early through mid-December is typically lower crowds too. However, it does appear as though that timeframe is becoming more and more popular. Still, it would be a great time to go.

She has special needs so with that alone, she is in a wheelchair, but no more limitations due to the needed surgery. It'll all be after!! She will be having hip surgery so recovery is slow. She had her right hip done May 04 so I unfortunatley now know what is involved!

I would love to go in early December also!! I'm sure she will be scheduled for surgery before then though, but maybe not! I'll find out on the 30th.

So the next question is do I scramble and try to go before? Kind of a relax before the crazyness , or do we wait and look forward to this trip after all her hard work and recovery?

You do know I am completely focusing my stress and worry of this surgery into an obsession over this trip don't you~!!

I honestly think I trip in March is great. That is when DH and I plan to go every year. We went this past March and it was during my college spring break and it was awesome. No wait longer than 20-30 minutes on any ride. You have to remember that this year, most spring breaks are now in April to go with Easter.

I have been in mid March and while it was crowded, it was manageable. If I were in the same position I would probably go afterward because then there is something to look forward to for your daughter and yourself as well.
I wish you and your daughter the very best. Good Luck.
