When we go to Florida for several months we have been leaving our second car in the driveway in front of our condo (no garage). This time we were gone longer than any time in the past (4 months). When we got home the brakes on that car seemed spongy even though there are only 37,000 mile on it. To make a long story short, the brakes had completely deteriorated from the dampness - the brake pads had fused to the rotors, two of the calipers wouldn't release and were replaced, etc. Much money later the car is drivable but we don't want this to happen again. Does anyone know of anything we can do to the brakes to preserve them over a long storage period? Is the only option to look for a garage to rent for storage while we are away?

Thanks for any advice. DH is threatening to sell the second car and make do with only one :scared1:

Still looking for advice from the mechanically inclined.

Gotta put it inside. Water is the cars enemy. Just covering it won't help. I store my car over the winter in an apartment building parking garage the next ton over. Apartments usually have space available at a reasonable price. They ask for a 6 month lease/rental of the spot. Give that a shot.

Thank you for the advice. We already drive our other car to FL and don't really need two there. There are some places around that allow storage of campers, etc., in barns over the winter. Guess we'll have to look into that before we take another trip.

Thanks again.
