Shoot me now but I agreed to make a teacher scrap book! It sounded like such a neat idea and I love my DD kindergarten teacher.
She is a CM consultant to boot! I have been to her workshops!
This is my idea so far.
I would cut die cut apples each parent is to send in a photo to fit the apple
also provide lined paper and will have the ?? what did you learn most or like best about Mrs. N.?
Then I asked for any pictures taken through out the year. I have a few.
I looked at Michael's and saw a nice spiral bound 5x5 book I don't want it too fancy very simple. I know it would be best in a CM 5X7 book but with cost and all I have a feeling myself and the Home room mom will foot the bill.
So has anyone made one? any ideas? I have until June 17th I hope! That is the last day of school!

Hi Spinning, What a great idea! I think the teacher will really appreciate this! What about having each of the kids write her a message and include it in the book, the parents could also write something. You could also include some stats on the class- 1 great teacher, 26 awesome kids, 2 pet fish ect... A group shot would be nice to include as well.

Hi Vanessa
I think it will be fun to put together. I just wish I had more time! It is my DD kindergarten class so I don't expect a lot of writing. I am hoping to get one sentence or a few words from each child I want to see if I can scan the class picture and shrink it to fit the page. I want to do the 5x5 or 5x7 album. I will be in school several days during the next few weeks so I will take my camera and snap some candids. Also they put on a little play in 2 weeks so I should get some great shots to add.
I'm aiming for simple and quick! LOL!
I thought it might be nice to have some of the kids draw a picture of her or doing something in class...
Stats is a good idea....Looks like another trip to the scrap store is in order!

Do you think the teacher took any pics during the year? I've done pages for baby albums where everybody does a page with embellishments so the Mom just has to add the pics. Do you know what I mean? Maybe you could add a few pages with the apples or a school-themed border or whatever so she could just add her pics.
How about a journaling page in the back for her? She could write what she best remembers about this class, the year, etc. That might be nice.
If she's a CM consultant, do you know how she feels about non-CM products? My CM consultant just turns the other way when I use something non-CM and doesn't say anything. But my SIL went to a crop where the CMC wouldn't allow ANY non- CM stuff.
I think she'll love this gift! Have fun doing it!

One of the moms in my son's preschool class at daycare did a scrapbook last year for the teacher. She sent home a sheet of paper (8.5 x 11) for each kid to fill out. It asked for their favorite center, favorite field trip and why "Mrs. Smith" is a great teacher. Some of the kids wrote their own answers and some had Mom or Dad do them, but each kid also wrote their own name on the page. We each sent in a wallet size phote, whcih she matted and put on each page. She also has each kids name on the page with stickers or stencils (I'm looking at a color copy so I can't tell which).

At the back, she included tons of candid shots of the kids. Through out the year, she had asked the teacher to make doubles of all the film she shot so that she would have photos to use in the scrapbook.

Her DH was able to get copies made for free at work, so all the parents got one too. I know the teacher loved it.

Something to keep in mind is that little kids tend to write kind of big, so you'll want to leave lots of room for them to answer any of the questions you ask.

If you are going to make small pages, why don't you use crayons or pencils as a border. You would only need 4 (one along the top, 2 along each side, one along the bottom.) And it would make a much narrower border, so there would be more writing space for the kids.

Thanks everyone!
This is what I have planned.
I have a 5x7 book
on the one side I will mount a printed out kids lined paper with the ??? what do you like about Mrs. N The kids will fill it in
They have 3 big double spaced lines to write in. I typed 4 ? and asked the parents to fill in their favorite color, favorite story, favorite snack and favorite school activity. I figure I will type this and print the answers out in a child like font. make it small and hopefully will fit under their apple
On the right side I have die cut apples. I asked each parent to send in a picture of their child either a school picture or a picture I can cut to fit.
I also asked for pictures they may have taken through out the year. I have some too. I will crop those and mount in the back. I think it will be cute. I have some school stickers and paper to use.
I plan to decorate the first page with her name, year, number of kids in the class also the home room mom's names(I'm not one but thought if I was a teacher I would like to remember their names). And if I have room some statement or something about special trips or activities...
The kids are also putting on a play this Tue. It is a jungle story and their class has been themed through out the year has been based on the jungle so I may try to find some stickers and paper to go with that theme too. I hope to take a lot of pictures Tue and can add to the book!
thanks everyone! I hope I get it all done! and it turns out!

Sounds like it will be a wonderful album- A gift any teacher would love! Very nice of you to do this for her!

Our local Staples (office supply store) carries three ring binders for 99cents. The one inch version. Then you buy a package of 8x11 top loading acid free page protectors there too. Very inexpensive. Give each child a sheet of card stock with a note. Tell the parents to have the child attach a picture of themselves, and either draw a picture or write a memory of something they did in school that year. Biggest problem I can see with the class doing this project is getting everyone to return their page. A way around this is to see if you and the head room mom can borrow the class for an half hour or so from the teacher (extra gift to the teacher, giving her some down time to finish last minute school paper work) and have them do them in class. You can take the pictures yourself and have the film developed and add the pix later on.
Plus this way the papers wont be folded, wrinkled etc. If your not a scrapper you wont know how important this is.

Well good luck

I taught pre-school and we did books for our students at the end of the year. I made extras for my assistant and I. Here are some of the things we included:

Firstly, we had the students decorate construction paper
just along the outside edges --- about 2-3 inches to
work as a border for our pages. The book ended up
being about 7-8 pages. Each child created their own
"frames". We encouraged them to do extras if they wanted
and used those for our books. :)

Nursery Rhymes we sung often (including little doodles
pertaining to the rhymes)

A "Do You Remember Page" that listed
field trips, guest speakers, cute sayings
that the students were known for, sayings
that were important to our class --- "chop-
chop" for time to hurry, etc..

The daily routine: ie: circle time, breakfast,
center time, outdoor activities, etc.

We had a few other pages such as our favorite books
during the year, crafts, snacks.

I wish we had included a thank you page or pages and
listed all of the people that supported our classroom. If I had
it to do over again, I would add that.

Oh we laminated the pages when we were done. It was really cute!

Hope this helps!

Oh, I forgot to add --- we personalized the books using candid pictures of the students from throughout the year and group shots. (Had to get a large number of copies.) Each page had a picture to cue the child as to the topic of the page.

That's about it!
