Help !!! I just got a call from DSVC saying that

After everything, how was your trip ?

  • It went great, no problems.

  • It had a few problems, but they were fixed nicely and quickly.

  • It had a few problems and it was not fixed to my satisfaction but was attempted.

  • It had problems and we did not get what was promised.

  • The change was a disaster and I am still upset.

  • Explain what happened.....

So sorry to hear about this situation. I love SSR and have never stayed concierge....but I agree that a studio at SSR is not an adequate substitute. It doesn't constitute the same type of vacation at all !!

At the least the dining plan should be offered. However, that doesn't offer the convenience of concierge. Certainly AKV is a very specific choice and a different experience from the rest of the dvc's. Therefore, it makes sense that a substitution should come from resorts that can offer the concierge experience.

the difficulty arises because DVC is separate from the rest of the resort operations. They don't have the inventory to provide a comparable experience for concierge guests. Hence they probably should be going outside their inventory to provide it. Probably unrealistic in the corporate atmosphere but nonetheless should be made possible.

I usually don't have this type of sentiment because I love DVC and try not to complain....but in this case I think it is due....

We DVC'rs are already a captive audience. Our future reservations are assured. We have already bought in. The same effort is not made to keep us happy.....

I feel that I have to repeat that the above is not a feeling that I have in general, but in this case it's warranted.....

Good luck to all of you !

I hear what you are saying about DVC being separate from the rest of the resort operations, but if that is so, then why was it last year that people were offered the opportunity to OKW and SSR when the some of the value and moderate resorts were overbooked.

Not all rooms at DVC resorts are owned by DVC members. Those who were moved to OKW or SSR were probably rooms CRO controlled or DVC turned over to CRO.

On the other hand, we are not talking about a large number of rooms. There should be something they could arrange. I saw an article last week about the millions Disney made in the second quarter. They made $339 million based on 2.73 billion revenue on theme parks alone. Why then do they have to increase ticket prices? Answer - because they can.

Ok, let me start by saying that I am so sorry you all are having to go thru this.

We are new members. Haven't even made that first trip home yet and now we are really wondering what we bought in to. This is something I would have expected from the likes of Westgate or a lesser fly by night timeshare. Not the epitomy of family vacations and magical memories. This is a PR nightmare that Disney, themselves, has created. Why would you be so careless at a resort that is still actively selling? It is one of the most careless moves that I have ever seen and screams of arogance. I sincerely hope that DVC and some of the guides read these forums. Shame on you, Disney. You are losing the respect that Walt earned and cultivated all those years ago.:sad2:

$339 million pofit and Disney can't find Concierge rooms for the displaced DVC members?:confused3 I think I will hold off on my point add on. I just may need my money in this economy and spend it where it is thought of with respect.

Hi Laxmom,
I've been a member since 2008 and honestly this is the first time I've heard anything as messed up as this from DVC. Not saying that I could've missed some other bad events but nothing this messy.
I'm surprised as well on how disney is handling this and I agree with kimber that my thought about adding on is a bit soured at this point. However, it doesn't worry me to the point of wanting to sell my contracts.
So I don't think you should be worried about your new membership. Disney can't make repeated big mistakes without many members jumping ship and hurting themselves in the long run.
I just hope that this particular incident gets resolved in a satisfactory manner with all guests affected. If it were me, I'd be extremely p-o-ed (and be on the phone daily until it's resolved) because I'm a type A and so doesn't like last minute bad surprise changes... hehe
What surprises me the most is usually disney would try to go above and beyond when THEY made the mistakes. And this time around, they didn't even barely try.... :sad2:

I am Type A too and this is killing me  but nobody at Disney seems to care or at least understand what they are offering is not comparable. If my DH didn't insist that we go for his race, I would probably be canceling the whole thing and just put my airfare towards going somewhere else.

Here's to the waitlist coming thru for those of us stuck at SSR instead of AKV's Con. :wizard: pixiedust: pixiedust:

Called back this morning and it took a while for the DVC rep to get what I was saying. She thought I was talking about the Jan savannah closure. :)

Anyway, after being on hold while she checked things out, she came back and asked for my best contact numbers for today and the weekend so someone could call me back to take care of this. She had that tone in her voice like "I dont want to tell you what is going on because you will probably get really irked about it, so please dont ask."

Wonderful. I am assuming that means we are moving. If not, the rep could have just told me that. Now to see if they put us in a 2BR or a 2BR and a studio because of room capacity.

I am pretty go with the flow and DH and I stayed concierge at AKV in July for our anniversary, so I have gotten to try it. The kids will be a little bummed, but its Disney, they would sleep in a box as long as we were able to be at Disney. :thumbsup2

However, the short notice is ridiculous and trying to rearrange all this crap is a pain. We are doing the cruise first, so I have to now let Owner's Locker and the car service we are using from the port know where we will be. Just a hassle, since I had all that stuff taken care of and done.

I promise to pitch a fit when they call me, if not for me, but for the other members being inconvenienced.

If I was going with my kids, this would not bother me so much. we'd be in the parks so much that where we stayed wouldn't matter. I want somewhere with it all in one building like at AKV.

I called too for mine (10/19-10/25). They confirmed it and never mentioned anything. Then I asked about the work. She checked. She told me the people handling the moving calls are not there today, but will be tomorrow and to please call back then and someone could speak to me.

So I will be on the phone again tomorrow and will report back. I may find out about the situation for 9. I called my mom before I called DVC and she said my sister is going to be able to join us. So we will have 9.

I am not happy about this at all. I love SSR, even OKW would be great. I will miss the concierge lounge, of course, but if they give me back the difference in points and make them bankable, I am good with that. I do resent the short notice AND the fact that I had to find out on here and call MS myself. When did they plan to tell me?

I would at least ask for free dining, seems like they are giving that when pushed. This all is very disturbing. I know things happen, but there needs to be a better faith effort on the part of DVC to fix this.
Good luck, Murphy

Steph,
I called member services this morning too and spoke with Kelly. She just called and left me voice message that I was not on the list to be
relocated. We have a 2 bdr booked. She stated her supervisor spoke with the supervisor who was doing the call backs to confirm. She also stated she called the IPO office
as well. Now when I explained what was happening, she was not aware of the closure. Sounds like no one has put the word out to all the reps. I wish they would be more consistent in their repsonses.

Is the AKL totally full for those dates? Since they aren't actually closing the lounge, I wonder why they just don't give you another room in the Lodge and provide access to the lounge? (And do at least a partial points refund).

Maybe that won't work for those who have the 1 bedroom units, but it seems like a reasonable solution for those who want lounge access and had a studio. Just a thought.

Out of curiosity a couple of days ago I checked availability online for pyrxtc's dates. At that time, requesting a "deluxe resort" brought up All Star Family Suites and requesting a "deluxe villa resort" brought up Fort Wilderness Cabins so it looks like WDW doesn't have much left for her dates.

After just finding out about this mess this morning for the wonderful DisBoards, I called MS and got responses that are not leaving me feeling confident. We have a 2BR booked for Sept 28-Oct 4. There are 6 adults and 2 kids in our party. We became members during our trip last October and booked this trip at that time. I am sick over this situation. MS told me that I would have been called if my reservation was affected. I was tod some people will have to move and others are not affected. I don't know if it has to do with the type of room we have or the check-in date or number of people in our party.
Can someone tell me how many floors are concierge? Is it 5th and 6th floor rooms? How many rooms are concierge on floors other than the 6th floor?
We have put soooo much time and effort into planning this trip from maling our ADR's to planning our trip times from AKV to each park, to preparing the kids for their stay with the animals. This is a horrible thing to be worrying about with only 49 days before we leave!

Can someone tell me how many floors are concierge? Is it 5th and 6th floor rooms? How many rooms are concierge on floors other than the 6th floor?
All of the Concierge rooms are on the 6th floor. There are a total of five 2BR lockoffs, most of which are rented as a 1BR and a studio. So the total room count is most likely either one 2BR, four 1BRs, four studios or two 2BRs, three 1BRs and three studios.

So this means concierge is only available to guests on the 6th floor?
If that is the case, then they would have to be cancelling ALL concierge reservations or are they putting people on the 5th floor rooms but they can still use concierge lounge? I am so upset over how this is being handled.

For AKV guests, yes. The AKL Concierge guests stay on the 4th floor.

If that is the case, then they would have to be cancelling ALL concierge reservations or are they putting people on the 5th floor rooms but they can still use concierge lounge? I am so upset over how this is being handled.
I think the problem is that due to the short notice, there are no other AKV rooms nor any AKL rooms available. So it's not an option to move them to the 5th floor or to a hotel room on the 4th or lower floors unless they kick out some AKV or AKL guests and give their rooms to the displaced AKV Concierge guests.

Sorry to hear this is happening. I would be really upset if this happened to me. Disney should have palnned better.

Hey. Just talked to Jessie, who is on Maggie's team. We have been moved to SSR and I was told I could have 9 in the room because of special circumstances. We were given the difference in points back, back to the Use Year they came from, bankable if needed. Oh, and the ever popular gift basket!!!

No free dining for us. Probably because there are 9 of us, 2 of the kids are over 10, so the equivalent of 7 adults and 2 kids. :sad2: I am go with the flow, like I said, but now that I know for sure, I am VERY disappointed. :sad1:

I would call MS and ask for Maggie. She is on the team handling the issues. If you happened to hang on to the AKV villa, I am glad.

That's really not a comparable deal at all. They should at least give you a room credit for charging some of your food bill to.

Not to mention in an AKV 2br you would all have places to sleep - is someone going to be on the floor now? They should really give you an additional studio or a GV.
