I have enough AirTran credits to turn them into 2 RT SW tickets. I have been hoping to use them in May to book a late November trip this year, knowing that there are limited seats for the certificates.
Yesterday, SW came out with the announcement about turn AirTran credits into SW points on November 2nd.
Can someone explain, in simple language, what that means to me and my situation?

Your A+ Rewards account will then be closed and we will convert your active credits to points at a ratio of 1 A+ Rewards Credit = 1,200 Rapid Rewards Points. We will begin this process on November 2, 2014 and consolidate your combined activity as quickly as possible.

The last time you can earn A+ rewards will be Nov 1. After that your rewards will be converted as stated above. Sounds pretty straight forward So weather you do it now or later you will still earn 1,200 RR for every 1 A+ Reward credit.

As far as your situation if you are planning in May to purchase tickets for Nov. you need to convert them before you purchase your tickets. If you do not convert and let them ride, they will automatically be converted Nov 2. provided you have a RR Acct.
