Help! Colonoscopy Prep

My dh has lied to all the doctors telling them, he had it done during a hospital stay, or a specialist. It has worked for 20 years. Now they think he has internal bleeding or cancer, as he takes 4 iron pills daily and is still lacking iron. We have 4 people in our house, 1 bathroom, and he is in a wheelchair. I am going to ask if he can have it done in the hospital. Has anyone done that.

I have seen it all. Call the doctor. There are some thing I wouldn't want the world to know I'm having!!!

I've lost my Disforums note of suggestions to make prep more comfortable!
My test is Monday coming!

My preparations are:. Pico-Salax two sachets in 6-8 glasses of water, the day
Before and Dulcolax 5mg-2 tablets

I persisted, called the office today. They gave me the information I was looking for. Exactly the same as advised here. Maybe, I'll be more comfortable.
I would probably ask how to be less hungry. (Which I realize you explained in your second post.)

I do apologize if English isn't your first language or something like that.

Just trying to explain why myself and other posters thought you meant something else. No biggie.

Other posters did not find it :confused3 They themselves opted to use my word in their kind replies.

Not that it matters, I'm actually English Heritage. NFLDERS coming from England to Newfoundland in the 1600's.

ok - the first posters seemed to misunderstand, until you explained, but whatever. Sorry I mentioned it.

Homemade chicken broth, ginger ale, etc. If you eat less the night before you will be more comfortable the day of prep.

Baby wipes. Lots of them.

Even though this isn't what you were asking about, have to agree with it though. After awhile even the softest toilet paper isn't soft anymore. ;) Would recommend this to everyone having a colonoscopy.

Got mine coming up in August. I am considering having some white wine before bed. This is a clear liquid. Am I thinking right? If not, tell me why?

My last one the doctor was kind enough to have me pour miralax into Gatorade and take 4 laxatives. No salty gross stuff. So that was nice. I was allowed to have ensure, ice cream and anything "liquid". Then after 6:00 or something I could only have clear liquids. It was far more pleasant than my first colonoscopy,

I think my least favorite part was the bloated has after the procedure. I was done for the day.

While it's clear, you should ask your doctor if alcohol is okay during the prep...just to be safe.

My last Colonoscopy, was also the first time I had experienced one. I personally would not be able to drink wine; (if allowed) I'm not use to cleanses, and the prep made me weak, my balance not good, I found that getting from the bdrm to bathrm, during the night was difficult.

My best suggestion is: don't ingest sugar!

I stick with La Croix (I think that's how you spell it) seltzer. It's available at Target - lots of natural flavors - peach-pear, grapefruit, lemon, lime, etc - no coloring, no sodium, no sugar, no artificial sweeteners. Because it's bubbly, it keeps me full for most of the day. If I get hungry in the late afternoon, I will fix some broth, but that's about it.

I've found jello, popsicles, 7UP - all the sugary stuff they say you can have - just makes me hungry and cranky.

And just think - by Tuesday, this will all be just a memory, not to be repeated for a long, long time!

Is your husband over 65? Our gastroenterologist will only do colonoscopies in the hospital for patients over 65. You might also explain to the doctor that your husband is extremely anxious about the exam, and request that he be given a light anesthesia that will knock him completely out. He will just go to sleep, and wake up quickly when it's over, just slightly groggy. That kind of anesthesia can be given in a specialty clinic or at a hospital.

Here's hoping for the best!

:thumbsup2 I'm going to try to find this. Target is new to Canada, not too many in our area. Thanks.

The WEEKEND?

Just what kind of prep did you do?

My DH has had quite a few colonoscopies due to his family history. Every doctor seems to have their own prep that they insist on. His last one was about a year ago and the prep started ONE WEEK in advance! I don't remember all the specifics, but I know he couldn't eat any nuts, seeds, raw fruits or veggies, or beans for an entire week. Since we are plant based eaters, it was a challenge. Thankfully, DH has hit the all clear age and can wait ten years now before getting the next one.

Yep, mine starts one week in advance too.
Mine is Monday Aug. 19th.
I have the song, "The Final countdown" in my head.
I did get Zolfran, which is an anti nauseous pill which I will take 1 hr after my 2 Dulcolax tablets. Then I have to drink the Golytely 8 oz, every 10-15 minutes.
I am suppose to drink mix the Golytely with with lemon Crystal lite. I hate Crystal lite, does anyone know what it would taste like without it?

My prep started 4 days prior with dietary restrictions and then eventually going to no food at all. The WORST was the Magnesium Citrate I had to drink at 4am the morning of the procedure. It was lemon/lime citrus flavored but OMG it was the worst thing ever..SO salty/sour, I had to gag it down (and I'm pretty tough about choking down things).

The pipes were pretty much cleaned out the early evening the day before the procedure.
