Help ... Borrowing Question

I'm new to DVC and the point system (we bought in at 300 points) so I could really use some help. We set up a trip for this December for a 2BR (200 pts) and 1BR (152 pts) at SSR. We needed to borrow 50 points from 2007 since we had 2 points banked from 2005. Then we just planned a trip to SSR this June and borrowed 124 points from 2007. My SIL just called to say that only she will be coming in December so we won't need the 1BR just a studio. Here's the question ... what happens to the 50 points borrowed in 2007 since we will only need 76 points for a studio instead of the 152 points for the 1BR. This will also affect our June trip since we wouldn't need to borrow 124 points - only 98. Can this be done or should we just keep the 1BR?

I hope I have made this understandable. Sorry if I haven't.

Once borrowed, points cannot be returned to their original Use Year. If you downgrade your 1BR to a Studio, just have MS use the borrowed points for that reservation (make sure you can get the studio before cancelling the 1BR though) and then bank the current points based on your banking deadlines.

The same would go for the other reservation with the borrowed points- make sure those are used since they would expire at the end of your current Use Year.

As for keeping the 1BR- I would always prefer a 1BR (with full kitchen and jacuzzi) to the studio- so don't be too hasty before cancelling what you already have.

I was figuring things out and for the December trip if I use the 50 borrowed points that would leave 76 points in UY 2006. Then could I just bank those 76 points (by my banking deadline) and let the 124 points borrowed in 2007 for the June trip stay like it is?

Yes, you have no choice with the borrowed points- since they must be used in the 2006 Use Year.

If you can change the reservation, immediately bank any current points into the next Use Year.

Thanks - I'm sure we will. I guess this is what happens when you make your plans so far ahead (of course you have to for Christmas) and things change. I'm sure I'll get used to it. We are just so excited to be part of DVC now.

Thanks, again, Doc. I'll call MS tomorrow. My SIL said she doesn't want a 1BR just to herself - she would rather have the studio so I'll see what I can do.
